Cocktails of Autumn
As the summer comes to a close, many people start thinking about how great it feels to indulge in the coziness of the autumn season. Along with wearing comfy scarves, hoodies, and sweaters, autumn means enjoying seasonal goodies like fresh baked pies and sipping on fall-inspired cocktails, too.
If you're familiar with fall favorites like pumpkin pie but have never had a pumpkin martini, we need to fill you in on what you're missing. Just imagine a spicy, smooth, and sweet dessert turned into a lively libation! It's a decadent drink to be sure, and it's just one way you can experience the magic of an autumn cocktail this coming season.
We've put together a few special fall drinks that we think you'll love while the weather begins to change and the leaves turn orange. Make these for warm nights around the fire, or prepare some for the upcoming holiday gatherings – either way, you can't go wrong.
Pumpkin Martini
When the pumpkins start to ripen and the spirit of Halloween is in the air, the Pumpkin Martini is an excellent way to celebrate the autumn season. Here's how:
Ingredients
- 1 fluid once full-fat coconut milk
- 1 fluid ounce spiced rum
- 1/2 fluid ounce pumpkin spice syrup
- Sprinkle of nutmeg
- Sprinkle of cinnamon
Method
- Chill a martini glass.
- Fill a martini shaker with crushed ice. Pour all ingredients into the shaker, and shake for a minute or two.
- Pour martini mixture into chilled martini glass. Sprinkle with nutmeg and cinnamon.
- Enjoy!
Cranberry Margarita
A little bit of this tart treat and you'll be well on your way to celebrating autumn in style, with summer in the rearview mirror.
Ingredients
- 2 cups cranberry juice
- 2 cups carbonated natural lemon-lime soda
- 4 cups water
- 1 cup tequila
- 1/4 cup lime juice
Method
- Pour all ingredients into 3- or 4-quart pitcher. Whisk ingredients until well blended.
- Cover mixture and freeze for about 2 hours, or until slushy but not frozen.
- Serve in margarita classes, with organic sugar on the rim if you like.
Hot Toddy
It's never too early in the year for a Hot Toddy, especially when the nights get cold and the days get a little bit dreary.
Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons raw honey
- 2 teaspoons boiling water, plus more to fill 2 mugs
- 3 ounces rum
- 2 slices lemon
- 8 whole cloves
- 2 cinnamon sticks
Method
- Divide 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon boiling water between 2 mugs.
- Divide rum, lemon, cloves, and cinnamon sticks between 2 mugs.
- Top each mug with boiling water.
- Enjoy!
Apple Pie Cocktail
Fall is the season to celebrate the magic of pie. So why not try it in a cocktail too?
Ingredients
- 10 ounces organic apple cider
- 1 ounce tuaca liqueur
- Dollop of coconut whipped cream (see recipe below)
- Sprinkle of cinnamon
Method
- Heat apple cider on stove until hot but not boiling. Pour into mug.
- Add tuaca and stir.
- Top with coconut whipped cream and cinnamon.
Coconut Whipped Cream
This one's super simple, and you can add a dash of just about any liquor to it, though we suggest pairing it with rum for that special “memories of summer†island-inspired flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 can full-fat coconut milk
Method
- Pour coconut milk into a bowl.
- With a hand or stand mixer, beat coconut milk for 5 minutes or until fluffy.
Butterscotch Cider
In the fall, nothing hits the spot quite like a hot cider this time of year. Try adding a little butterscotch surprise with this tasty treat that will warm you up in no time.
Ingredients
- 1 gallon organic apple cider
- 2 cups butterscotch liqueur
- 8 cinnamon sticks
Method
- Combine all ingredients in a medium-sized crock pot or slow cooker.
- Cover and heat on low for 3 to 4 hours.
- Keep on low and serve warm.
Brandy Alexander
This throwback drink has the perfect balance of sweetness and class. Enjoy creating your own velvety, frothy delight this fall.
Ingredients
- 2 ounces brandy
- 1/2 ounce cacao crème liqueur
- 1/2 ounce coconut milk
- Sprinkle of nutmeg
Method
- Combine all ingredients (except nutmeg) in a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously.
- Strain into a 6-ounce cocktail glass and sprinkle nutmeg on top.
