Updating Your Skincare for Fall

Updating Your Skincare for Fall

One thing that drives us crazy about skincare is that it's always focusing on what's your skin type? To which you respond: Oily, A Little Oily (but, just in the T-Zone!), Combination (Whatever that means? Normal?), Dry, Extra Dry. But that's not the only thing that should play a role in your skincare purchases. You need to take into account your climate, the weather, and most importantly the changing of seasons.

Think about it.

Everyone rotates their clothing with the changing of seasons. Think of your medicine cabinet as your closet - and every closet needs a season refresh! Even the slights adjustments to your skincare routines will make a difference in how your skin looks and feels.

With Autumn fast approaching (hello, PSL!), dry, cooler air is just around the corner. This, in addition to the drop in humidity levels, causes skin to lose moisture, resulting in skin irritation, chapped lips, and dry, flaky skin.

So what do we do?

Change up your Moisturizer.

Moisturize, moisturize, MOISTURIZE. Moisturizing is not only important during any season, it's that much more important during Autumn. During the Summer months, we, of course, recommend a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer. Unfortunately that's just not going to cut it in the Fall. Slather on (face AND neck) a heavier, thicker moisturizing cream. Better yet, choose one with ceramides that form a protective layer that plumps the skin and retains moisture.

Apply Sunscreen.

Just because you can't FEEL the heat from the sun doesn't negate the fact that the sun is still shining. If you live in a colder climate where you see snow, the sun is even harsher, reflecting off the snow. Dermatologists recommend wearing a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, blocking 97% of the sun's harmful UVB rays.

Lay off the Exfoliation.

But not entirely. Gently exfoliating once a week during the colder months helps remove any dry, flaky skin. Over exfoliating can often result in stripping the skin of any moisture and essential oils, leading to breakouts in the dry, colder months. So again, opt for something on the gentler side. And hey, don't forget to exfoliate those lips too!

Use a Hydrating Serum.

That is, if you don't already! Apply a Hydrating Serum every night as a part of your nightly routine. Select a hydrating serum that lists Hyaluronic Acid as one of it's main ingredients. In fact, our Deep Hydrating & Brightening Serum is packed with nourishing Hyaluronic Acid, Glycerin, and Aloe Vera to soothe and enhance your skin's moisture balance. It's as if it was made for the colder months. ;) Our Deep Hydrating & Brightening Serum is also available in mask-form to deliver 1 full ounce of serum into the skin within 30 minutes(!). One question we often get asked is when to apply serum in your skincare product line-up. We recommend applying serum after cleansing your skin and before layering on your moisturizer. We even recommend going to bed feeling a little greasy and over-hydrated as your skin loses moisture FAST while you sleep.

Most importantly, pay extra attention to how your skin reacts to the change in weather and adjust your skin care routine to what YOUR skin NEEDS. Your skin is just as unique as YOU are.

Don't forget, our Up to 25% Off Summer Sale Event is live through 8/28 11:59pm PST!
