Smooth Skin Is Always In

5 Ways to Prepare Your Skin + Body for Summer

Ladies and gents, the warm, sunny, summer season is right around the corner! It will be here before we know it…which means we need to start summer skin prep, like yesterday. Avoid the panic that sets in around early May when you realize your dry winter skin has been left to fend for itself. Take a deep breath! We’re here to help.

This summer, show off your glowing skin you wish you always had. But how?! We want you to walk, stand, dance, and live with confidence in your skin. Let’s do this.

ONE: Exfoliate

Anyone who knows anything about skin care knows that exfoliating is the holy grail for fine, smooth, happy skin. Exfoliating should be done all year round, but should especially be a part of your routine in the summer. The humidity + sweating + the heat provide the perfect ground for clogged pores, ingrown hairs, uneven tones and just overall blah-ness. Exfoliating helps with all of these by working off the layer of dry skin that builds up over the winter.  For the body, aim to find a scrub with coarse particles that will assist is sloughing off the skin. For the face, aim for a cleansing brush or a gentle micro-bead exfoliant! Either way, you’ll be feeling fresh and smooth!!

TWO: Reconsider How You’re Removing Body Hair

We STRONGLY believe in hair removal, especially because we know how annoying, tedious, and *extra* continuous shaving, waxing and plucking can be. If you are reading this then I want you to think, “Hmmm, if I shave my legs, armpits and bikini line twice per week in the summer months how many times is that”. We don’t have to be mathematicians to understand that we spend so much of our precious time shaving. Unless you want to walk out the door looking like Edward Scissorhands hands shaved your legs, then you understand that you must take.your.time. Which is great in theory but it’s 2018 and we barely have time to eat breakfast let alone shave our legs!

Lucky for all, there is a beautiful and effective hair removal device, designed to:

  1. Save you time
  2. Protect your skin
  3. Leave your permanently hair-free.

Yes, you read that correctly. Permanently hair-free. The Tria Beauty Hair Removal Laser 4X is the absolute best way to remove your unwanted body hair. It’s the ONLY way we remove our hair.

THREE: Always Have Safe, Effective Sunscreen

How many times have you arrived at the beach and realized you forgot your sunscreen? What happens next? You either A: Say, “Oh I should be fine without it” or B: “Can I borrow yours?” We want to avoid both of those scenarios! Firstly, you ALWAYS need sunscreen and secondly, if you’re borrowing someone’s, you can’t totally be sure what is in it. We recommend any of these for your face and these for your body to make sure you’re putting the best of the best on your bod.

FOUR: Clear Up Body Acne

We want you to have clear skin all over. After being covered up in these winter months, it’s time to shed the layers. This can be scary for some people who struggle with body acne. We’ve all be there!! For anything on your face, the Tria Positively Clear 3-Step Acne Solution is the way to go. You can even use it on areas like your shoulders that are easier to reach too! It combines blue light that feels gentle on your skin but works on your acne. For your body, look for body washes that contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Avoid the washes that smell delicious — unfortunately the added fragrances can flare up body acne.

FIVE: Dont Forget About Your Precious Feet!!

Last but not least your feet! You always want to put your best foot forward 🙂 Your feet have also been covered all winter so now is the time to treat them right! If you’ve been rocking a half-decent winter pedicure, remove all the polish and let your toenails *breathe*. You’re more likely to have them covered in polish all summer long so take these next few weeks to let them go au naturale. Instead focus on your cuticles, your heels and the other delicate skin on your feet. Exfoliating your feet in the shower is a quick, easy way to remove the dead skin while your skin is moist.

Happy Skin, Happy Summer!

Best Advice We've Ever Heard!

The Best Advice We’ve Ever Heard

Celebrating Women’s History Month with The Best Female Advice We’ve Ever Heard

(And Can Actually Understand)

This month we are celebrating women everywhere. It is the month where we honor the incredible history of the millions of women who have graced this earth from the beginning. In true Tria fashion, we want to share our favorite advice from none other than our #TriaTribe of kick ass women. As human beings, we experience so much. As women, we experience so much. As mothers, sisters, aunts, nieces, bridesmaids, best friends, girlfriends and #ladybosses we take on the world with all it has to offer, and give back just as much as we get.

So, our monthly contribution this month is to share a compilation of the best advice we’ve ever heard. And because we love you all so much, we even broke it down by categories. Next time you’re feeling lost, take a quick peek back at this post to put you back on track. We wish we could expand each of these with the ever-so-insightful anecdotes from our female contributors but alss that will be saved for another post. So , without further ado…

The Best Advice We’ve Ever Heard For…Travel:

If you absolutely love the thrill & passion of adventure, pause here and read the this advice. If travel doesn’t set your soul on fire, feel free to skip ahead.

  • Always carry ginger candies, dried ginger roots, or anything ginger. Ginger is used to treat stomach aches and nausea which are common with travel, especially in foreign countries!
  • Know your airport rules. 3 – 1- 1
    • 3 oz bottles, in 1 clear bag, and only 1 clear bag per person. Airport security is the last thing you want to mess with when trying to make that flight!
  • Carry on your bag when possible; if not, bring to gate for them to check for free!
  • Always buy travel insurance. Rule of thumb: If you can’t afford travel insurance, you can’t afford to travel.

The Best Advice We’ve Ever Heard For…Marriage:

This one could probably be an entire book but we’ll recap for you.

  • Always answer the phone when your husband or wife is calling. Easy enough!
  • Budget time & money for one-on-one date night. This may seem like a no-brainer but you may be surprised how often date night is missed.
  • Laugh, Laugh some more, and then laugh again.
  • You are not in a competition with your spouse (no matter how competitive you are!)
  • Sung in an Aretha Franklin voice: ‘R-E-S-P-E-C-T’. You give respect, you get respect.
  • Said in a 5th grade middle school voice “Secrets secrets are no fun, unless they’re shared with everyone”. Keeping secrets is never a good thing and usually leads to more consequent bad things.

The Best Advice We’ve Ever Heard For…Life:

  • Avoid decisions when you’re angry and avoid promises when you’re happy.
  • Happiness is  a choice and everything else is a matter of perspective.
  • Choose your friends wisely. You are a direct representation of the 5 people you hang out with the most.
  • Seek to connect with others, not to impress.

The Best Advice We’ve Ever Heard For…Health/Diet:

  • Water is the most important. We should say this one again. Water is the elixir of life and even if you think you’re drinking enough, chances are you need more!
  • Nutrients vs. Calories. Seek foods that are nutritious and delicious. So often ladies are counting their calories. To put in perspective, a fruit smoothie with protein filled almond milk, nutrient dense kale, and fiber filled chia seeds could easily be 300 calories and keep you full and energized for hours. A medium french fries from McDonald’s is 380 calories.
  • Sleeping more helps you stay slim!
  • Breakfast is the most IMPORTANT meal of the day. Make it a priority to eat something other than you morning cup o’joe!

All of these tidbits are absolutely marvelous and we are thankful to be graced with this solid advice. As women we are constantly evolving and growing to be even more capable of beautifully handling everything life throws at us. At Tria, we specialize in working hard to make beautiful women look and feel their best, but it is the true support from females worldwide that make this world a better place. Cheers to Women’s History Month and our #TriaTribe!

Healthy Aging

Healthy-Aging: You’ll Be Thankful You Loved Your Skin Today

When you think of aging, what comes to mind?

Wrinkled faces, sun damage, nursing homes, achy joints, your mom constantly treating those crow lines around her eyes?

All true. Aging pertains to each and every part of your body: Hair, skin, nails, internal organ health, your brain…the list goes on.

Today we want to focus on your body part that usually showcases aging the most: your skin.

Your skin is so so so important. For starters, it is your body’s largest organ. So with that in mind, in terms of aging healthy, you should be protecting your entire body: hands, feet, face, ears, eyelids, legs, neck, chest, etc.

First off, do not panic if you have not been taking care of your skin. Whether you are 20, 30 or 40, you can always make the change early on to prevent the negative effects of aging. It’s better to start now then wait until those first wrinkles make their appearance.

Let’s start with two hard, simple facts to consider when discussing aging, focusing on internal and external factors:

Internally: The first is that as you age naturally, all body processes begin to slow down, especially skin cell repair. When you are younger, your body works to produce collagen and elastin to make your skin moist, elastic and wrinkle free (can we stay young forever?!) However, as you grow older these two powerhouse proteins are produced way less, and without sufficient amounts you are prone to wrinkles. Actually, starting in your late 20’s, you lose up to 1.5% collagen every year.
Externally: The second, is that the sun is the main factor that causes skin damage to ALL parts of your body. When protecting your body from the sun, you need to think about places like your eyelids, lips, hands and feet that show signs of aging just as much as your face.

What small steps can I take today to help my skin age healthily? (Yes, today).

It’s 2018 and you finally need to understand that effective sun protection is the foundation of every anti-aging plan. Do not go tanning (indoor or outdoor), be sure to wear sunglasses outside to protect the skin around your eyes, cover up with SPF sunscreen and/or clothing when being subjected to sunny conditions.

Washing your face and following with a moisturizer morning and night will make a difference. Even if you do not suffer from acne, cleansing your skin is great for overall skin appearance. As skin gets older, it tends to dry out more, so applying a daily moisturizer will trap water within your skin. Do these two together; slathering moisturizer on dirty skin will trap the dirt. Washing your face without applying moisturizer will leave you clean, but more prone to dry, wrinkled skin later on.

If you are already experiencing signs of aging, rest assured there are incredible products available that can help. From effective, convenient laser technology to serums,  you can combat your wrinkles and fine lines from the comfort of your own home.

What lifestyle changes can I take to help my skin age healthily?

If you are really serious about healthy aging (which you should be) you can make lifestyle changes that will leave you better in the long run! Eating healthy foods (lean protein, fruits, and veggies, healthy fats) and getting enough beauty sleep work together to make you look your best on the outside and feel your best on the inside.

Lastly, if you are a smoker stop immediately. Besides the other numerous, proven negative side effects of smoking that affect all parts of your body, the toxins within cigarettes lead to dry, loose skin with a leathery appearance.

So, unless you are blessed with incredible, wrinkle-free genes and/or never laugh or smile, then you will have wrinkles and show signs of aging. And they will appear without you expecting it.

Aging will happen to everyone. But the true magic lies in what you do about it now! Wear sunscreen, drink water, laugh, smile and treat your skin like the gift that it is.

Tria SmoothBeauty Laser

SmoothBeauty Laser Media Buzz on The Marilyn Denis Show

Noted plastic surgeon, Dr. Sean Rice, discusses various ways to stay healthy and look great throughout the holiday season and highlights the Tria SmoothBeauty Laser as a wonderful at-home wrinkle fighting device. Dr. Rice invites Danika, a current customer, to talk about the results she has seen while using the device.

Here is video transcript of The Marilyn Denis Show

Marilyn: OK, we are really taking care of you today. Here we will have advice on how you can have fabulous looking skin for the holidays, please welcome Dr. Sean Rice Syria. Here he is. Nice to see you Syria.

Dr. Sean: Same here. Nice to see you.

Marilyn: So we got a new at-home anti-aging technology. You want to talk to us about that?

Dr. Sean: Great, so there is a new laser technology that you can use at home called the Tria skin rejuvenating system and it’s very similar to the kind of lasers that we use in the office. So if you come to my office, we have some very expensive lasers that can re-surface your skin.

Marilyn: OK

Dr. Sean: And what we are doing is, one of the lasers we have is called the fractionated laser. So it shoots little tiny beams of energy. We use carbon dioxide and that goes down under the skin and it causes the skin to regenerate. So what the Tria does now, is that Tria does that with light energy, so you are shooting these little balls of light down into the skin. That causes the skin to disrupt and it causes it to regrow and as it regrows the collagen the collagen thickens itself and you start to notice that the little fine lines start to disappear. And it really helps with the texturing of the skin as well. The other thing that it does is that the little brown pigment deep down into the skin.

Marilyn: Yes.

Dr. Sean: and if you can regenerate the collagen, that pigment will come to the surface. So things like the Tria will really help to bring that pigment up to the surface.

Marilyn: Do you use this over the entire face?

Dr. Sean: You can use it over the entire face, you just want to avoid going directly over the eye.

Marilyn: OK, so don’t like, does it come with little goggles or something?

Marilyn: No, but you know, the interesting thing with the Tria is, on the side of the Tria, there is a little purple light, and the purple light is a contact thing, so if the contact comes off your skin, the Laser will automatically shuts itself off, so you don’t have to worry, a very good safety issue. You don’t have to worry about coming in contact with your eye.

Marilyn: And when we are talking, when we say face, we are saying this to down here, are we not? That’s the face to me.

Dr. Sean: Well, ya, I would say, not necessarily

Marilyn: Down to here, down to here, down to here.

Dr. Sean: Well, it can be in a few years. But ah, you want to keep it basically from the bottom of the neck up.

Marilyn: OK, and the cost. I know Danika is in the audience and we are going to talk to her in a second. But how much is the cost of something like this?

Dr. Sean: Well, the cost to this is definitely less than it is coming to the office, having as you know, ah, continual laser treatment stuff.

Marilyn: Right, so, it’s what? 4 something, or?

Dr. Sean: Ya I think it’s $495

Marilyn: OK, Danika, Hi, Gorgeous skin.

Danika: Thank you

Marilyn: So you have been using this product for a while

Danika: Ya, about 6 months. It’s amazing

Marilyn: And so you, well, let’s take a really good look at Danika. So what did you notice the diff, how did you, when did you first notice the difference in your skin? There you are. There is your before shot. Tell me, you know, did you do it every night? Every morning? What did you do?

Danika: I did it every night and within about 2 weeks, I already start to notice the difference. It looked like my skin was filling out from the inside.

Marilyn: OK

Danika: swelling up, the creases started to go away, they went from being down to here to minimally. I’d say, I am 38 now, I’d say I am back down to how I looked wrinkle-wise when I was 28. So it’s fantastic.

Marilyn: Wow, wow, that’s good, that’s great. You did all the no sunscreen and drinking lots of water to go along with that too, with an occasional glass of wine.

Danika: Ya

Marilyn: Anything else you want to say about this?

Dr. Sean: Well, you know, it’s a great system. It takes about 4-6 weeks before you start to see the results. You need to do it about 8 weeks on and about 4 weeks off.

Marilyn: OK, very good. Great information. We always like to hear about new products. Thank you so much. Nice to see you again. For more information, visit our web-site Marily.ca. Thanks Danika. We’ll have to take a break and be right back.

Woman sunbathing in the sun on the beach

Happy National Sunscreen Day!

The National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention has officially declared the Friday before Memorial Day weekend, “National Sunscreen Day.” Although there are a million and one reasons to celebrate the sun, on Friday we spread awareness about its potential danger and we get smart about managing the sun.

So let’s talk about sun damage for a bit and then go into how we can take preventative measures. As beauty lovers, we are obsessed about the health and vitality of our skin. Sun damage is one of the main causes of premature aging. It can actually compound the aging process. Ultraviolet light from the sun penetrates all the layers of skin, including the layers that actively work to produce collagen to fortify your skin. This leads to decreased elasticity, sagginess and wrinkles (gasp!) Also, that bright red lobster look that you can get from a fresh sunburn has never been flattering. And what about the hyperpigmentation or potentially dangerous moles that often make an unwelcome appearance after frequent sun exposure? No thank you.

The most unfortunate potential consequence of sun overexposure is skin cancer. In the U.S. alone, there are 5.4 million cases reported per year. There are more skin cancer cases than breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, and colon cancer combined!

Still not convinced? Do you need a visual? Dr. Sandra Lee (a.k.a.) Dr. Pimplepopper shared this man’s photo on Instagram:

She engagingly asked her fans if they could guess his occupation, the obvious answer being a truck driver. The photo shows the drastic difference in skin texture between the frequently sunned left side of his face and the shaded right side.

But on a more positive note, let’s talk about what you CAN do to stay safe in the sun.

Avoid the Sun!

When possible, you can protect yourself from the sun by avoiding it all together. Try to stay covered indoors between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. when the sun’s rays are the strongest.

Gear Up!

When you must go outside, wear a hat and sunglasses. Skin-protective clothing act as an extra barrier from those harmful rays. Cover up your arms with long sleeves and wear long pants. This is especially important when you anticipate being outside for an extended period of time.

Slather on that SPF!

For those times you want to go outside and show some skin, be sure to protect it with sunscreen. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends using a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher that specifically says “broad-spectrum” on the label (which means it protects against UVA and UVB rays). Also make sure that your sunscreen is water resistant. It’s best to wear sunscreen every day, all year long. Harmful rays don’t go away just because it’s cloudy and gray outside. It’s ideal to apply sunscreen 15 to 30 minutes before going outside. Remember that photo that Dr. Lee shared? Apply sunscreen even if you’ll be in the car driving all day. Reapply your sunscreen every two hours while the sun is out to keep that SPF factor fresh and actively working to protect your precious skin.

And of course don’t forget to stay hydrated! Drink lots of water!
