Tria Beauty 4X Hair Removal Laser in Grey

Tria 4X Hair Removal Laser features that you need to know

When shopping for a potentially life-altering hair removal device, it can be challenging to make the right choice for you. But, what should be suitable for everyone is a device that is easy to use and has features that make it more convenient. The Tria 4X Hair Removal Laser has unique features among all other hair removal device brands, and I am here to show you what those are! Here are the top 5 features that you need to know:

The 4X Hair Removal Laser is Cordless

One of my favorite features of the 4X is that it is cordless. It seems simple enough, but most hair removal devices on the market are corded, which means you do not have the freedom to use them wherever you want. During one of my Facebook Live events, my guest was using her Tria 4X outdoors to treat the hair on her legs, and it looked like a very relaxing experience! I have customers reporting to me that they’ve used our lasers on planes to save time! If you remember corded telephones, then you know how annoying it is to be stuck against the wall talking to your BFF. Don’t forget that because the device is cordless, the internal rechargeable battery needs some TLC to keep it running smoothly. Just be sure not to store the device in your closet for long periods and charge it once at least every three months.

The LED Screen is Your Friend

Tria 4X LED ScreenI don’t know about you, but I always prefer a screen on a device that allows me to see important information such as battery life. When you turn the 4X Laser on, you can see how much battery power is left, the power level, and how many ‘shots fired’ you have completed during your session. The latter is essential to me to track progress. For instance, if I am doing my legs and I use 300 zaps one month, and the next month I use 200, that means I have less hair to zap! This is usually a good indicator to let you know that your treatments are working!

Laser Won’t Unlock Unless it’s Safe

Safety is a priority at Tria–did you know our lasers are FDA-Cleared? In the early 2000s, Tria conducted tests to ensure that the laser was safe for use at home and which body zones were the safest to treat. A feature was introduced to ensure that the laser was safe to use on a particular area utilizing a little red light on the bottom of the device. For instance, I had a customer tell me that after a summer vacation of tanning on the beach, her Tria 4X device would not unlock. This is because if your skin tone is darker than the light brown shade shown on the left chart, the laser will not detect the hair follicle, and there is a risk of burn.

Tria Laser Skin Chart

Try to remember that if you have tanned during the summer or used a self-tanner, utilize the safety unlocking feature to ensure that the areas you are treating are safe. I will simply turn off the device and back on again when moving on to another area of my body and have the device test the area I am about to treat.

Tria’s Lasers Are True Diode Lasers

Here’s one that creates mass confusion–are Tria’s lasers IPL or laser technology? There is an entire blog post about What is the difference between Laser Hair Removal and IPL? Simply said: IPL is a big, broad flash of light (hence why you need to wear annoying goggles during treatments), and it is not as targeted as a diode laser. Don’t let the word ‘laser’ fool you when you see ads on YouTube and Google when the device advertised is really just IPL. Tria’s 4X laser delivers 3 times more energy than IPL, resulting in more permanent hair removal. Facts.

Five Power Levels for Comfort

It is true that the higher the power level setting is set on the 4X, the faster the results will be. For a lot of us, we need to power down a bit in order to feel comfortable. Personally, I can handle level 3 on my face, but I can power up to 5 for other areas, such as my legs. The fact that you can choose your power level to accommodate certain body parts is wonderful! You have 5 levels to choose from on the 4X, and you can definitely use a level 1 to start out with and work your way up as you start losing hair or get used to the sensation. The denser the hair is in a particular area, the more you will feel the power! Always start out with level 1 when treating an area you haven’t treated before to see how it feels, then work your way up.

Best of Beauty 2021

Our editor’s best beauty picks for 2021

By Tria Beauty Editor Krista Robyn and Beauty Influencer Courtnei Lee

If you keep up with beauty trends and launches, it felt a bit relaxed in 2021 when it came to new beauty on the shelves. This might have been due to factory shutdowns and slower production due to COVID-19. This year, I decided to focus on my skincare routine, wear less makeup, and appreciate my natural beauty (most of the time!). I focused my shopping on staple products rather than wasting money on trendy palettes and sets that pile up and create more bathroom clutter. I also looked for brands that were eco-friendly and helped create less waste for the planet.

For this best beauty list, I collaborated with fellow beauty enthusiast, Courtnei Lee, who loves a good beauty find just as much as I do! We’ve rounded up our top beauty products of the year that we just couldn’t live without!

Krista’s Top Beauty Picks

Tom Ford Neroli Portofino Eau de Parfum – Travel Size Atomizer $65

Tom Ford Neroli PerfumeOn a trip to Bloomingdale’s, I stopped at the Tom Ford counter to take in all of the beautiful scents the brand has to offer. They are all unique, ranging from ultra feminine to some serious deep woods and tobacco masculinity. I found the perfect one for me – Neroli Portofino, which is a gorgeous blend of Italian citrus, florals and amber. The price point threw me off as the full size 3.4 oz bottle is $360 before tax. I nearly walked away pouting, but the sales associate introduced me to the travel size atomizers that were $65, and I was definitely onboard with that price. Now, if you do the math, you save money per ounce on the bigger bottles, which is the case with most perfumes. I did not want to commit to the larger bottle since I hardly have an occasion to wear fragrances with COVID still looming.

Another awesome thing about this scent is that I can wear it all year without it being seasonal. This bottle is the perfect size and price for someone dreaming of luxury fragrances without shelling out a fortune. Another tip is to take advantage of Bloomingdale’s Klarna payments offering, where you can make small payments each week until the item is paid off. I was lucky enough to have my atomizer engraved at the place of purchase with my name so that it is personalized just for me!

Natasha Denona Macro Tech Eyeliner Crayon $24

Natasha Denona Eyeliner PencilFinding a good black eyeliner is like finding a needle in a huge cosmetic haystack. What I look for in a quality pencil liner is longevity and something easy to apply. A staple product in my smokey eye look is a good black pencil liner that I can blend or wear in my waterline without it running down my eyes.

After many years of searching and trying liners, I discovered the Natasha Denona eyeliner pencil in Black. It’s creamy and highly pigmented, and draws out like a dream. If you’re looking for alternatives to black, they have a really beautiful burgundy shade that is trendy this year, and a nice warm brown.

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Diamonds Lipstick $34

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Diamonds LipstickI own a lot of lipstick and glosses, but I assure you that it is nothing like this next product. I was looking for something super glam to rev up my current lipstick shades, but I did not want a sticky gloss to wear under my COVID mask. The texture of the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Diamonds Lipstick is soft, yet does not leave a texture behind that would transfer into my mask.

This gorgeous shimmering golden lip color can turn any lipstick shade that you have into a glimmering glam look as it has many micro sparkle pigments to transform your looks. I tried this lipstick over a dark burgundy and I could not stop looking in the mirror!

Drybar Double-Shot Blow-Dryer Brush $150

Drybar Double Shot Dryer BrushWith hair that won’t stop frizzing no matter what the humidity levels are, I was forever needing to heat style my hair with a curling iron after drying my hair. As you can imagine, it was very time consuming to blow dry my hair and then heat style it. I’ve owned a few blow dryer brushes before, but the one from Drybar is the best I’ve tried hands down!

This oval-shaped blow drying brush dries and styles my hair at the same time while taming any frizz, leaving my hair looking like a fresh blow out every time. I could not be happier with my hair! My tip to you is to invest in a really good heat protector spray, because the brush gets very hot.

Makeup Eraser Puff 5-Piece Exfoliator Set $15

MakeUp Eraser PuffsThis next item may seem very simple, but these MakeUp Eraser Puffs are little life savers and are my green pick of the list! I use these puffs to remove my makeup (works with or without soap), exfoliate and you can also apply toner with these! These puffs do so many things, there is no need to buy cotton balls or makeup rounds ever again. Each puff has lasted me a few months with proper care, and my trash can is no longer piling up with cotton waste.

The set of 5 comes with a laundry bag so you can toss your puffs into your wash with ease. These should be part of any makeup lover’s skincare kit!

Ok, Courtnei, it’s your turn! I’ll turn it over to her to share her ‘can’t live without’ products for the year!

Courtnei Lee’s Top Beauty Picks

It was a year of chaos for all of us, and it was definitely a challenge to stay on top of beauty, especially working from home! These are my top 4 beauty products that saved me in 2021!

Jubel Naturals Daily Dew Oil

Jubel Naturals Daily Dew Moisturizing Oil $34

I actually found out about the Jubel Naturals brand through a collaboration, and I’m so glad I did! This all natural, vegan, cruelty-free skincare is incredible! I have dry/combo skin and this beauty oil brings back moisture in such a gentle soothing way. It leaves my skin feeling hydrated, repaired, and ready for the day!

Tria Beauty 4X Hair Removal Laser with Courtnei LeeTria 4x Hair Removal Laser $459

I honestly can’t say enough about this powerhouse device. As a trans woman, lockdown was extra scary as my laser appointments were shut down as well. Thank God for Tria and this amazing device coming to my rescue! It’s so simple, so convenient, and the only form of basically painless hair removal I have found.

Olaplex No. 0 Intensive Bond Building Hair Treatment $28

Olaplex No. 0 TreatmentWe all had our quarantine hair moments whether it was a touch up dye job, full bleach out, or a regrettable bang experience. We all tried to be our own stylist and our hair is feeling it! I was dyeing my own hair constantly, and this product was my life saver. I’m pretty confident I would be rocking Charlie Brown bald right now if it weren’t for the bond building treatment. This product is easily applied via spray bottle, and completely saved my hair structure. 10/10 would recommend.

Laser hair removal vs IPL

What is the difference between Laser Hair Removal and IPL?

In today’s laser hair removal device market, we see ads for at-home laser hair removal devices when most of the devices advertised are not even laser at all! There is a mass amount of “laser” hair removal devices you see on Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. Most of these devices use a technology called IPL – which’s short for Intense Pulsed Light. In layman’s terms… that’s not a laser!

Tria is the only FDA-cleared at-home hair removal laser available on the market and uses the same diode laser technology used by dermatologists and laser hair removal clinics. But how do Tria’s lasers compare with those of the IPL variety, and how is laser more effective for permanent hair removal? Let’s take a deeper dive into the technology, shall we?

What is laser hair removal?

While both IPL and laser hair removal methods use light to heat the hair follicles to prevent regrowth, the technology is different due to the light source used. With laser, a pulse of focused light targets the pigment in the hair, and the energy from that light converts to heat which then disables the hair follicle underneath the skin. This process helps stop future hair growth, but it doesn’t happen overnight.

Since each hair on the body is in a different growth phase, your hair growth will need to be in the anagen hair growth phase for permanent hair removal. This is why lasering at home can take between 3 to 8 sessions or more to see results over 2 to 6 months when performed once every two weeks with Tria’s lasers. Consistency and patience is the key to achieving long-term results. If you miss a session doing laser in the areas you are targeting, you will have to wait longer to see the results you were hoping for.

Who is laser hair removal for?

Laser hair removal is not suitable for all skin tones or hair colors. Since there must be a contrast between the skin color and the hair color, the laser works best on pale to light brown skin tones with light brown to black hair color. The laser will not work on grey, blonde or red body hair. Even if you do artificial tanning, such as using a spray tan or tanning bed, you will need to wait until your tan fades before using the laser. Tria’s laser will not unlock if your skin and hair color are not suitable–this is a safety feature to keep skin from any injuries.

Another factor to take into consideration when deciding on laser hair removal is hormones. The most common reason why women grow thick facial hair is due to a hormonal disorder called PCOS. Laser will work to help control the hair growth, but it will not permanently remove it, resulting in long-term use of laser for the face.

If you are a candidate for laser hair removal, then there’s no better time than now to get started on your smooth skin journey!

What is IPL hair removal?

IPL vs Laser graphic

IPL technology, which is different from laser technology, uses a broad spectrum of light with multiple wavelengths to target pigment in the hair. The energy is not as focused as a laser, as you can see in the diagram above, causing the energy to be much weaker than Tria’s diode lasers. This means you will need more treatments and will most likely see less permanent results. When it comes to safety, IPL can be concerning since the beam of light emitted covers a large area of skin surrounding the hair, increasing your chances of skin and tissue damage.

Tria's laser vs IPL

If we look at this chart here that compares Tria’s hair removal lasers with at-home IPL devices, we see that Tria uses 20 Joules (a unit of energy) and delivers 3X more energy than leading IPL hair removal devices.

Now that we’ve covered the technology portion of IPL vs. Laser, let’s talk about the machine’s body and why Tria is easier to use than an IPL device.

Tria’s lasers are cordless and do not require you to be tethered to the wall during treatments like IPL devices. You can enjoy the outdoors, lounge on the bed or couch, or use it anywhere you want! Having a cordless device also means that you can maneuver the device in a broader range of places without tangling yourself in a cord.

With Tria’s lasers, you do not have to wear protective eyewear like you do with IPL devices. No need to wear sunglasses at night while zapping away body hair!

Before you go, I’d like to go over the three P’s–the three reasons why you should opt for laser:

  • Precise – Lasers use pinpoint precision when treating each hair.
  • Power – More power means faster results.
  • Permanent – Who wants to invest time into hair removal when it is not permanent?

That’s all for today Tria Beauties; please don’t hesitate to ask us any questions regarding our hair removal devices by sending a DM to @triabeauty.

Laser Hair Removal Summer Tips

Laser Hair Removal Summer Tips

Waiting all year for the glory of the summer sun is definitely a highlight for those finally coming out of quarantine. While some of us are still waiting for our community pools and beaches to open, there are a lot of people wondering how to tame hair growth before stepping out in their short shorts. There are many customers coming to us saying they’ve been waiting forever to get into a laser hair removal clinic, and turned to Tria Beauty for their at-home hair removal needs while on lockdown. (Thank you!) Now that the sun has made its appearance, there are a few tidbits you should know about before starting your laser hair removal journey for the summer.

We’ve wrangled some handy guidelines from our wonderful customer care team here at Tria as well as tips from the experts at Boomboombrowbar.com.

TIP #1 – Minimize or avoid sun exposure

As we all know, sun exposure makes your skin more sensitive, especially during the summer months. When you are frolicking about on the beaches in Hawaii, your skin will become more sensitive to heat than ever–think about that time when you had a sunburn and took a hot shower–ouch!! Since hair removal lasers use heat, the treatment will not only sting, but it may cause burns and even scarring. Not worth the risk! Avoid the sun at least 24 to 48 hours before and after sun exposure, and definitely do not treat any areas with a sunburn.

Keep in mind that the areas that could be the most sensitive to the sun are the face, arms, hands, feet, and legs. For men that worship the sun, that could possibly be the chest and back area.

To help minimize sun exposure, always wear sunscreen! Use a broad-spectrum SPF sunscreen that shields you from both UVB and UVA rays. To keep your skin hydrated while using your laser, use the pre-treatment Soothing Gel, available in the 4X and Precision Laser Deluxe Kits.

TIP #2 – Avoid tanning

In order to effectively use our at-home hair removal lasers, there needs to be contrast between your skin tone and the body hair in order for the laser to target the melanin in the hair. Tanning the skin, whether you are doing sunless self-tanner, spray tanning, tanning beds, or tanning with the natural sun, your skin tone may become darker than your body hair color.

To find see if you are a candidate for at-home laser hair removal with Tria, you can scroll down on this page to see our skin tone and body hair color chart.

TIP #3 – Use caution when exfoliating

Because laser hair removal will cause your pores to open, you want to let your skin heal for at least 48 hours. Try to avoid the sauna, jacuzzi, swimming pool, or ocean swimming. You also want to avoid exfoliating your skin for about 5 days following your treatment. No loofah or scrubby sponges, salt or sugar scrubs for at least 5 days.

Reasons why your 4X Hair Removal Laser doesn't work

9 reasons why your Tria 4X Hair Removal Laser doesn’t work

Did you know that your hair has to be in a specific growth stage in order for laser hair removal to work? There are several reasons why you could be seeing hair growth after using the Tria Hair Removal Laser 4X, and I will break down those reasons for you below! Scroll down a bit to watch the full video.

#1: Your body hair color is too light

The hair removal laser’s heat source is attracted to the pigment in the hair. The hair that you want to remove has to be dark enough for the laser to find your hair’s pigment and will work on light brown to black hair. Unfortunately, Blonde, red, white, and grey hair does not have enough pigment to attract the laser’s heat. If your device unlocks, but you do not feel the heat on level 5 treatments, your hair may be too light for the device.

#2: The laser’s treatment window is dirty

If your treatment window is not cleaned after every use, it can build up a film on the surface of oil, skin cells, or treatment gels. If your window has a build-up of gunk, the laser cannot effectively penetrate through the window. Use an alcohol wipe before every use to make sure the laser can sufficiently penetrate through the treatment window.

#3: Your treatment power level is too low

The Tria Hair Removal Laser 4X is effective at all treatment levels. The five settings (or three settings if you are using the Precision Laser) are five different levels of intensity. Using a lower intensity means that the treatment will work slower, but may be more comfortable to some users.

We recommend that you start at a low treatment level (1 or 2) and then increase by one treatment level at a time until you’ve reached the highest treatment level comfortable to you. The higher the treatment level, the faster the results.

#4: You are not overlapping your treatment pattern

By overlapping your pattern while treating with the laser, you are making sure to treat every hair, during every treatment. If you move the laser over an inch at a time, you are missing hairs during your treatments.

#5: You are not shaving before treatments

It is very important that you shave your treatment area the night before or a few hours before treating with the hair removal laser. Use a fresh razor to ensure the hair is flat on the surface of the skin. Do not wax or pluck the hairs, do not use an epilator or hair removal creams as the hair will not be flat at the surface of the skin.

#6: You’re skipping treatments

In order for laser hair removal to work, you need to treat at a specific hair growth cycle called Anagen, known as the growth phase. Each hair on your body is at a different growth stage, so it will take at least 6-8 treatments in order to catch all of the hairs in the Anagen phase. Since you do not know what cycle you’re in at the time of treatment, you will have to make sure not to skip ANY treatments. You have to treat your skin with your laser once every two weeks. Mark your calendars!

#7: You are not giving the hair removal process enough time

As I stated in #5, you will need to treat all of the hairs during the Anagen hair growth phase for laser hair removal to be effective. This process can take up to six months for some people. You will also need to be prepared do to touch-ups as some hairs may have been skipped during treatments. Some customers report to me that they see results after three treatments, and some say it takes 8-9 sessions. Patience is key!

#8: You may have biological factors that influence your results

If you have PCOS (in women only) or other hormonal imbalances, there is a chance that this is the reason why you are not seeing permanent results. We have many customers with PCOS that tell me that the 4X is a godsend in controlling facial hair, but it will not be permanent. Menopause can also cause a hormonal imbalance, and it is safe to treat during this stage in life, but we do not recommend our laser for pregnant or breastfeeding women.

#9: Your device needs troubleshooting

If you are seeing an error message or your device isn’t turning on, you will need to turn to page 21 in your Tria 4X manual for help. If the tips in the manual are not helping you troubleshoot your device, be sure to have your serial number ready (on the bottom of your device) and your order information.

If you’ve stored your device away for a long period of time, which we do NOT recommend, you may need to try the reset method to start up your device. Be sure to charge your device at least once every three months to avoid battery drainage. This method is not guaranteed to work, but it has worked fantastic for many customers.

To reset your device:

1. Plug your device in for 24 hours.
2. Take the cord, while leaving the device plugged in the wall, and plug it in and out 5 times in a row, without turning the device on.
3. After the 5th time turn on your device, then put it right back on the charger for 2 hours. After charging for 2 hours turn on the device and see if it works normally.

If you still need assistance, you can contact our Customer Care team and they will be happy to walk you through your issues.
