Halloween Makeup Ideas

Beautiful and spooky Halloween makeup ideas

If you are like me, you absolutely live for the month of October leading up to Halloween. I could definitely do without seeing the costume stores going up in August, but once October 1st hits, I’m ready for the spooky decor and inspiration for Halloween makeup ideas!

I browsed Instagram for the most beautiful and spookiest Halloween makeup looks that I could find. There is some amazing inspiration out there, and it just keeps getting better! Are you looking forward to trying some of these looks out?

MALEFICENT MAKEUP

Disney’s Maleficent is going to be a huge Halloween this year, and it looks like an easy look to achieve if you have the right tools and costume pieces. There are a couple versions of this look that will go over fantastic at your Halloween party this year: you can go classic Maleficent with a complete makeup kit from Party City, where they also sell the costume to go with it. They offer a 20% off coupon for orders over $35, which is an added bonus!

Morphe 9A Artistry Palette

If you are going for the Angelina Jolie version of Maleficent like you see in the photo above, you’ll need a makeup palette with several shades of contour colors and red lipstick. I suggest the Morphe 9A Always Golden Artistry Palette due to the fact that it has a variety of brown shades to create that deep cheekbone and a black shade. Plus, this palette will definitely not go to waste–those colors are very wearable for everyday looks.

ColourPop Evil Queen Lipstick

Now for that vixen red lip color! If you prefer liquid lipstick, I love the Jeffree Star Redrum Velour Liquid Lipstick, also available at Morphe. If a traditional tube of lipstick is up your alley, ColourPop released a lipstick, Evil Queen, as part of their Villians collection with Disney. What a perfect match!

You can watch the video tutorial on how @dressyourface did this Maleficent look right here!

Pennywise The Clown Makeup

Another popular Halloween look making the rounds on Instagram this month is Pennywise, the evil and horrifying clown from the movie IT. In fact, the look was being worn well before Halloween–some theaters banned costumes and clown makeup back in early September when the movie released. Since nobody is banning Halloween, we are free to let our Pennywise flags fly!

I am loving the more feminine take on the clown character’s makeup, and it seems a bit less scary if young kids are around. To get this look, you only need a few things: white clown makeup base, red lipstick or theatrical makeup crayon and black eyeshadow/mascara/eyeliner. Luckily, the Spirit Halloween Store sells complete Pennywise makeup kits, and they include adhesive parts to make it easy for the non-artsy people out there. The “I Love Derry” balloons not included!

Need a costume? This Pennywise women’s costume from Party City is by far the best one I’ve seen if you are going for a pretty evil clown look…if that’s even possible!

Harley Quinn Makeup

Our favorite female Suicide Squad vigilante, Harley Quinn, will make it back to the big screen come February 2020, and I am more than excited about it! It seems like I am not the only one that is excited. There are many interpretations of this character’s look, but I think the simpler, the better. There’s not much to it!

The artist that created the look in the photo above used the Morphe 35B Eyeshadow Palette, which is not apparently available in the US, and plus, do you really need a giant eyeshadow palette? Luckily, Morphe sells eyeshadow single pans for $2.50 each! You can choose Morphe’s Aquatic Earth eyeshadow color for your left eye look, and a stunning hot pink shade like Morphe’s Orchid eyeshadow single.

Take a look at my exact recommendation for red lipstick up where I spoke about the Maleficent makeup. It is definitely the same shade of red! The famous blue and pink Harley Quinn hair might be a little difficult, but thankfully wigs and colored hairspray exist! If you are looking for a less expensive “toss in the trash” wig, the Harley Quinn wig from Party City looks like it will get the job done. If you want to get serious about your Harley hair, then look for a lace front wig. A good synthetic one will set you back $120, but you will definitely stand out as having the best costume at your party!

As for costumes, you have several choices! The Party City choice is a bit sexy for an office or neighbor’s Halloween party, but the Rubie’s version requires your black yoga or stretch pants you already have to pull this top and jacket ensemble together.

Princess Jasmine Makeup

The makeup look for Disney’s Princess Jasmine can be just about anything because this look is all about the accessories! I particularly like the makeup look shown in the photo above because it uses neutrals that you may already have at home, except some of us may not have a turquoise eyeshadow to use. I think the blue shadow gives the look at a more costumey vibe which is appropriate for Halloween, but I also think you could use alternatives such as blue or gold glitter on the bottom eyelid area. If you are more inclined to head to the drugstore for your Jasmine look, check out NYX Cosmetics Pigment Eyeshadow in Sea Foam, if that color doesn’t scream Princess Jasmine, I don’t know what else does!

As for costumes, the same rule goes for what I mentioned in the section about Harley Quinn–you can go super sexy Jasmine or tone it down for taking the kids trick-or-treating. The hair is very important to make the Jasmine look come alive–if you have naturally black long hair, you are blessed! If not, there are inexpensive wig options that won’t cost you your magic lamp.

As for the beautiful headpiece and jewelry ensemble, there are many gorgeous handmade Princess Jasmine pieces on Etsy right now.

WITCH MAKEUP

Now, for one of my favorites–the witch. This is simply the most fool-proof way to do Halloween and can be as simple as a witch hat and a black sweater. But, if you want to be 100% That Witch, then you will need some inspiration. I fell in love with this look in the photo above due to the neon green eyeshadow that stood out among 100 other photos on the same page. This eyeshadow look takes some major blending skill, but if you want to go simple, you can use the eyeshadow in the inner corner of your eyes or as a single color on the bottom lid. Now, keep in mind that the artist used a $60 palette for the eyeshadow look. You can find a similar neon palette on Amazon for $14–and it is rated 4.5 stars.

For the witchy symbols, you can use any liquid eyeliner and go wild. Stars, moons, freckles, you can do just about anything that matches your mood. Milk Makeup creates moon and stars stamps if you are in a hurry or don’t feel you have an artistic touch.

No matter what look you choose for Halloween night, make sure you are wearing something reflective if you plan on walking around in the dark seeking treats. I sound like a naggy mom, but it is all about safety first! Have a happy and safe Halloween!

NYFW Spring Summer 2020 Beauty Trends

Best makeup, hair and nail looks from NYFW 2020

It felt like summer was starting all over again when I browsed the runway looks from the recent NYFW 2020 shows. The bright blush, the citrine-hued nails, and the slicked back hairstyles looked like something ripped straight out of the 80s and early 90s Vogue magazines. Let’s take a look at my favorite wearable picks from backstage and on the NYFW 2020 Spring/Summer runway.

Fall-Inspired Smokey Eyes

I’m just going to dive into what my favorite look is out of the entire thing. I am such a fan of the smokey eye look but especially excited about the colors used on one of the models at the Marc Jacobs runway show. Each model was given their own unique makeup look, but this look above is what really caught my attention. Makeup looks were directed by none other than the legendary Pat McGrath, who had created 60 different makeup looks for the show, while hairstylist Guido Palau had just as tough of a job coming up with just as many hairstyles.

This wearable eye makeup look was created using the Marc Jacobs Beauty Eye-conic Multi-Finish Eye Palette in Glambition, which is going on my holiday wishlist right now!

Ashley Graham at NYFW 2020

During the Tommy x Zendaya Fall 2019 runway show, (yes, fall!) another sighting of beautiful warm bronze colors was worn by models such as Ashely Graham. This show was the most talked-about runway of the season–it took place at the Apollo Theater! Celeb makeup artist Sir John for Lancome created a “Daytime Disco” look inspired by Bianca Jagger and Jerry Hall.

You can start wearing this look now! Here’s how to create the eye and lip look, according to Makeup.com:

Create a Smoky Eye

Trace along your waterline and top lash line with Lancôme Le Stylo Waterproof in Noir and smudge Lancôme Le Stylo Waterproof in Chocolat across the lower lash line. Define the crease and outer corners of the eyes with Lancôme Color Design Mono Eye Shadow in Henna and Embers. From the Lancôme Hypnôse Palette in Bois Corail, use the antique gold shade to light up the center of the lid.

Create Full Lashes and Strong Brows

Apply a coat of Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara in Black to your lashes. Fill in and strengthen your arches with Lancôme Brow Define Pencil.

Create the Perfect Lips for Fall

Using Lancôme Le Stylo Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner in Cafe Noir for depth, fill in your lips and layer Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Ruby Cream Lipstick in Queen Ruby on top for richness.

Yes, faux freckles were a thing on the runway this season. Remember when this fad went big on social media earlier this year? It made its way to fashion week–but is this look for everyone? Not particularly. As someone who has struggled to fade their own freckles for decades, I don’t have any interest in drawing them back on! But, the people that can pull it off really look good as you can see in the example above from Brandon Maxwell’s 2020 runway show.

Using MAC’s Spellbinder eye shadow, which has a gunmetal metallic finish, makeup artist Tom Pecheaux created this look which is easy to achieve. Keeping brows natural a full, the eyeshadow is applied to the lid only with a few coats of mascara. A glossy nude lip and neutral blush keep the eyes at the center of attention.

Statement Lips

Beautiful simplicity is my idea of spring and summer makeup. Keeping the skin gorgeous and dewy while maintaining a healthy brow are the staple components of 2020’s beauty style. It’s going to be an iconic year, so why not wear an iconic red lip? The statement lip is going to be huge come next year.

Models’ skin at Prabal Gurung’s runway show was prepped with Whal Myung Korean skincare, and each model wore either a glossy lip balm, a black glossy lip, a red lip or a deep burgundy shade. The inspiration was “etherial girls with a feminine touch,” according to MAC artist Lousie Zizzo.

Statement Blush

As a forever fan of a liquid cat eye, I was thrilled to see that the cat-eye look isn’t dying out anytime soon. At Tadashi Shoji’s NYFW 2020 runway show, the look was inspired by lighter take on Harajuku girls’ style with a pop of yellow eyeliner on top of a blunt-edged black winged liner. A wash of bright pink blush was placed on the cheekbone with an upwards angle that lands near the corner of the outer eye edge. Lips were dabbed with sheer pops of glossy color.

The nail art was a standout for me. I loved the wavy lines pattern and red tips on the nails for this look.

Speaking of nails…

Nail Looks for 2020

Charme Nails from Jinsoon
Citrine Nails: JINSOON

Remember the lime green nail trend that happened this summer? The citrine nail trend for spring/summer 2020 is a refreshing and a bit more sophisticated take on that trend. Jin Soon Choi used the color Charme from her JINSOON nail color line at 3.1 Phillip Lim to create this beautiful look on the models’ nails.

French manicure from Essie

The white-tipped French manicure is back, and it’s not just for weddings anymore! Manicurist Betina Goldstein created these elegantly simple French tipped nails for KHAITE by using @essie sheer nude polish in Mademoiselle and lined the tips in Blanc, also from Essie.

If I could get married all over again, I would be sporting these pearl-tipped French manicured nails down the aisle. For Alice + Olivia’s runway show, KISS Lead Nail Artist Gina Edwards applied tiny pearls from the brand’s Nail Art Kit. Edwards applied these pearls to a set of KISS press-on nails, which I have been a fan of for a few years.

Slick Hair

Prabal Gurung Slick Hair

Slick and sleek wet-looking hair is still a style that is going strong since the world fell in love with Kim Kardashian-West’s Met Gala look back in May. YouTuber Lana Summer makes the wet hairstyle technique look easy using a wig and some mousse! Above, you see a very wet hair look at Prabal Gurung, which can be achieved by using mousse with a shine serum applied on top for an extra slick look.

Tory Burch NYFW 2020 Hair

British celebrity hairstylist Guido Palau had a lot of troubles finding those old 1980s hair combs that he used for the Tory Burch runway show. He ended up spray painting the ones that he found to match the solid color combs that my mother wore every day of my childhood.

If the wet look isn’t your thing, you can try putting your hair back with these combs and a little mousse or a light hair gel to keep it all in place. You may have better luck finding these plastic combs at the dollar store than anywhere else unless you have better luck finding them than Guido did!

Fall Trends 2019

Beauty trends to try in fall 2019

Believe it or not, fall begins next month. I’m not ready to start brewing up some pumpkin spice lattes just yet, but I am exploring upcoming fall beauty trends that we’ll be seeing in the coming months ahead. I scoured the interwebs looking at NYFW runway trends for Fall/Winter and peeked at some of my favorite Instagram accounts. Here are a few of my favorite trends for fall 2019!

Buttery Skin Trend

Buttery Skin TrendTo best describe the buttery skin (sounds delicious!) makeup trend, I’d say it’s an all-over glow, rather than a strategically placed highlight glow. This look does not rely on skincare products to do all the work, but rather the makeup does all of the talking, er, glowing.

If you recall the Korean “glass skin” phenomenon that we saw trending this year, you may also remember that this look required several layers of skincare products plus makeup to achieve a healthy all-over sheen. Who has time for all of that? Now, I am not discouraging anyone from dropping their skincare routine. Please, do continue with all of your favorites, and don’t forget your weekly hydrating masks and serums!

To get this look, you will need freshly washed and hydrated skin. I prefer using full coverage, yet dewy foundation for this look and I highly recommend the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation with SPF 50 to even out the skin and conceal any blemishes. After that I applied, I take a dime-sized amount of the Milani Cosmetics Soft Focus Glow in Golden Glow on my fingertips and pat it all over my skin. You can alternatively mix this glowing cream in with the foundation as well if you want a more subtle look.

TIPS: If your skin is a bit too oily this time of year, you can opt for a powder highlighter instead of the cream. I recommend the Jeffree Star Cosmetics Skin Frost in Sarcophagus dusted on with a fluffy brush.

Monochromatic Terra Cotta Makeup Trend

Monochromatic Terra Cotta Makeup

I like monochromatic makeup due to the fact that it is quick with a no-brainer application. The look that you see above was snapped directly off of the Cushnie Fall/Winter 2019 runway. Backstage makeup artist Grace Lee explained that the terra cotta hued look was created using  Maybelline’s Color Sensational Made lipstick in Mauve-For-Me or Spice-for-Me on the eyes, lips, and cheeks. What is wonderful about these lipsticks are that Maybelline tested these shades on fifty diverse skintones–meaning that they created these colors to suit all skin tones!

TIPS: If you are in a pinch, you can apply the lipstick to your eyes, lips, and cheeks with a fingertip and blend. If you prefer that your fingers stay off of your makeup products, you can opt to use a sheer blending brush for all over color, like the Chanel Dual-Tip Concealer Brush which has one flat end for applying cream-based products and a round end for blending. For the cheeks, you can use your blending sponge for a quick application.

Bambi Lashes Trend

Bambi Lashes
Brandon Maxwell Fall 2019 Runway | Photo: IMAXtree

Think back to the eyelashes of the 60s–wide-eyed with a little help of liquid liner to create faux bottom lashes. The trend is back, but not as dramatic as the lashes that model Twiggy Lawson made famous in the late 1960s. This lash trend is a little tamer and wearable but may take a bit of practice to master.

Backstage at Anna Sui’s NYFW Fall/Winter 2019 show, makeup artist Pat McGrath explained that brows are taking a “backseat” next season and that heavy lashes are making their way to the forefront of beauty. Volumizing mascaras will be flying off of the shelves, and McGrath developed her own mascara to create this “doll-eye” look herself: FetishEyes Mascara.

TIPS: When using a volumizing mascara, try to stick to using just one coat. Attempting to apply a second coat may result in unflattering tarantula lashes. I recommend using a lash primer first to help plump and separate the lashes before using mascara: Dior’s DiorShow Maximizer 3D Primer. To complete the doll eye, or “Bambi” lash look, you can opt to apply very thin vertical lines with a liquid liner between your bottom lashes to create a faux lash look.

Messy BunMessy Buns

Now here’s a hairstyle we can all relate to–the messy bun! The messy bun is thankfully on-trend for fall, but there is a twist! The hair is sleek and shiny and combed up into the elastic band into a ponytail. Then it is teased a bit before it is wound around the hair elastic to create a voluminous messy look. The bun can be worn high or low. I personally think the low bun looks a bit dressed up as the high bun appears a bit more casual (think “sweater weather” hair).

TIPS: I prefer to use spiral hair ties over regular elastic bands. I have thick, coarse hair and I usually break any hair tie! With the spiral ties, I have witnessed no breakage and it is easy on the hair. After I tease my ponytail with a comb, I like to loosely pin down my bun with bobby pins as I wrap it, just to make sure it is secure.

Blunt Bob Haircut

Blunt Bob Haircut Everyone is rocking the blunt bob these days: Hailey Bieber, Ayesha Curry, and so many other celebs have chopped their hair this summer. This hairstyle is going to go hard in fall as well. Although the style itself is low maintenance, you will need to ensure you go in for a trim every three to six weeks to maintain that blunt cut look.

TIPS: You will most likely need to invest in a good flat iron if your hair is not straight enough to pull off this look. Try applying a shine product like Drybar’s The Chaser Shine Cream to damp hair before styling. You’ll need to wash more often with a shorter hairstyle, so you’ll want to invest in a hair powder to keep that volume and oil under control. Try Oribe Swept Up Hair Volume Powder to spray on the roots daily.

Copper Red HairCopper Red Hair

Coppery red hair looks so beautiful against the fall leaves. If you are daring enough to try red yourself, fall will be the season to see red! Of course, with red hair, you need to be very careful if you are going to DIY it at home. You can take a simple quiz on Madison Reed’s website to determine if you are a good candidate for DIY red hair dye. I personally failed the quiz when I said I wanted to dye my hair red again after dying it black and blue ombre. Oops! Unfortunately, I have to fade my hair naturally before going any lighter, but for the rest of you, you may be in luck!

TIPS: I’ve had red hair for many years, and I can attest to the fact that red hair dye FADES. Lucky for us, there are many brands that carry a line of color depositing shampoo. My favorite brand is Celeb Luxury, and they carry many shades of red to quench your desire to maintain or enhance vibrant red hair.

Rich Red Lips

Red Lips
Photo: IMAXtree

There is nothing shy or sheer about this fall’s red lip trend. Pat McGrath is back to bring us another trend for the season at Chloe’s NYFW Fall/Winter 2019 runway. The lips that McGrath created are vibrant, opaque, and seen here with extreme definition. These are fierce lips! All I can think of is Pat McGrath’s Exxotica lipstick for fall, which is the perfect violet-based burgundy red shade that will set the mood.

TIPS: If you’re like me, red lipstick bleeds. My trick is to apply a high-quality lip liner on the entire lip area first. Try Pat McGrath’s Manhattan lip liner around the lip line, then blend onto the rest of the lips with a lip brush. Apply your lipstick, then blot on a tissue, then reapply. You should be good for your morning coffee!

Summer Beauty Trends for 2019

Beautiful beauty trends for summer 2019

The heat is on! Warmer weather is here, and we’re gearing up for ways to wear less makeup in the summer heat without compromising our style. Luckily, we found summer beauty looks that are both beautiful and brazen that is inspired by the runways and makeup artists around the globe.

Contouring can be a bit heavy during summer’s hot days, plus, who wants to check their makeup all day to make sure it’s still on? You can still accentuate your best facial features, but with a much softer technique and product. With a large fluffy brush, you can lightly dust a powder bronzer all over the face, and dip in again to lightly contour the cheekbones, jawline, and sides of the nose.

Makeup artist @makeup_by_lira used the Hourglass Cosmetics Ambient Lighting Bronzer (Photo above) in Radiant Bronze Light, which added warmer tones to the model’s medium skin tone. Hourglass also created more shades of this bronzing powder for fairer complexions.

PRO TIP: Don’t be afraid to dab a bit of shimmery bronzer on the lids when you’re in a hurry. Throw on a coast of mascara, a gloss, and you’re good!

GLOSSY SKIN

Some of us ladies are already graced with glossy and glowing skin the summer, but for the rest of the world, we need a little assistance. This summer’s makeup look is all about showing some skin without heavy concealers–which means taking care of your skin first! If bacterial acne is something that plagues your skin, you will be happy to know that our blue light technology will help! Tria’s Positively Clear 3-Step Acne Skincare Solution will get you the clear skin that you’ve been dreaming about! Once you start seeing your flawless skin emerge, you will notice you’ll need less foundation to hide your spots.

To achieve this “glass skin” look, you can start out with some light coverage with SPF protection with a product like It Cosmetics’ CC+ Cream with SPF 50+ which will even out and correct your skin tone before you apply your color. Apply a cream-based blush like the NARS all-purpose stick The Multiple to your cheeks (it also works on eyes and lips) and dab with your fingertips to blend. Then it is time for the “icing” on the cake–BECCA Cosmetics’ Skin Love Glow Glaze Stick is what @nikki_makeup used to give her model that iconic dewy look on her cheekbones. This highlighting balm should be used sparingly on the areas you want to add a healthy glow!

PRO TIP: Do not add these types of highlighter balms on top of a powder product. It will cake up your look if you aren’t careful!

GLITTER EYELINER

If you are daring enough to add a little pizazz to your look this summer, a great beauty trend to try is liquid glitter eyeliner. The trick to this trend is to let it steal the show without allowing your other makeup choices overshadow it. We like the gold glitter option because it looks pretty on all skin tones, and can be worn with most shades of lipstick without clashing.

One of our favorite looks of the season is a simple look where the eyelid is color washed with a matte peach eyeshadow and adorned with a gold glitter cat-eye flick. A natural pair of false lashes would add more glam to the look–perfect for a date night!

LIME GREEN NAILS

Now here’s a trend that we’ve missed for at least 20+ years–lime green nails! The shade of lime green is currently trending on Instagram as it is–clothing, hair color, you name it. Thinking back to the lime green biker shorts from the 90s, it sure did make our legs look tan in the summer!

The beautifully polished nails in the photo above are by @manilovebyann using Semilac professional brand gel polish #182 Strong Lime with an iridescent product called Efekt Syrenki from Indigo. To do your own nails at home with this lime look, try China Glaze polish in Trip of a Lime Time with an opal top coat nail polish to add a shimmery shift to the color.

CLASSIC RED LIP

When in doubt of which lipstick to apply before heading out, wherever it may be, there’s always red! We absolutely love a matte velvety red lipstick for any occasion–your best friend’s wedding, a day at the beach, or a dinner date with the girls. We prefer liquid lipstick for lasting power during hotter days and love Kylie Cosmetics’ Red Velvet Lip Kit that includes a lip liner. The warmer tone in the lipstick gives it a classy look and doesn’t look too bright or harsh on most skin tones.

If you insist on a head-turning bright red lip, look no further than Kylie Cosmetics’ No Sleep Lip Kit, which is a bright coral red that will get a lot of attention this summer.

PRO TIP: When wearing matte red lips, make sure your lips have been exfoliated and nourished before you apply. Try the e.l.f Lip Exfoliator to remove dead skin cells and wear the Laneige Lip Mask overnight. If lines and wrinkles are an issue around your mouth, we recommend the Nuvesse Firming & Anti-Aging Lip Serum Roller to restore the skin’s natural volume and elasticity.

A STATEMENT LIP

Yes, a statement lip is this summer’s lipstick trend–but which shade to choose? This stunning purple orchid shade is making waves on social media, and we love it!

@beleza_do_glam makes a gorgeous bright purple liquid lipstick that is perfect for summer or any time of year for that matter!

PRO TIP: The same rules apply as the red lipstick–keep your eye makeup simple to allow the lipstick color to play its part.

If you thought Kim Kardashian-West was the only one who could get away with the wet hair look, think again! The secret to this hairstyle is that your hair is not actually wet, it just appears to be so! Our favorite method to get this look is to use sea salt spray on wet hair, then work some styling mousse from root to tip, and the big surprise, men’s wet look hair gel. You work the gel through the hair and concentrate on the ends of the hair while scrunching it with your hands. You finish off the prep work by using a daily serum to add shine. Then you will grab your hair dryer and dry your hair to seal in the look.

We found this method on More.com and we can’t wait for you to try it out this summer!

HAIR ACCESSORIES

We haven’t seen hair accessories like this since the early 90s–and they’re back full force. Behold the return of the scrunchie! And you’ve got to admit, they really do look cute when used properly. Perfect for a summer up-do, a scrunchie or a “scrunchie scarf” can spice up your mom bun on summer vacation. Take a look at @senorita.scrunchie‘s beautiful floral scrunchie scarf (photo above) when used on a regular ponytail.

Other hot hair accessories include oversized barrettes with pearls or tortoiseshell designs placed on sleek hairstyles. With so many patterns and styles to choose from, you can go conservative or completely wild with hair accessories this summer!

MONOCHROMATIC MAKEUP

The monochromatic makeup style has survived several seasons as a trend, and we’re beginning to wonder if it’s here to stay. The rules are simple–match your eyeshadow to your lipstick (blush, too) and call it a look! For summer, our favorite monochromatic look this peachy style (photo above) by @mariastefan.makeup which also showcases a beautifully drawn cat eye.

The best selling Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette would be a great place to start with your monochromatic looks. There are enough sizzling peach shades along with everyday neutrals and darker colors to get you through more than one season of looks. For a perfect peachy pout, take a look at the photo above where the artist used the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb to set those lips on fire.

TSA travel rules for beauty products

TSA-Friendly Beauty Essentials For Summer Travel

Planning what beauty products to take on a big summer trip can be as much of a nightmare as trying on bathing suits in a florescent-lighted dressing room. TSA’s rules state that you can only bring liquid or gel-like items in your carry on bag if they are 3.4 ounces or less and placed in a quart-sized plastic bag. These rules can be hard to remember and a pain to plan for during the chaos of packing.

Just relax! You’re in luck! We are here to help you pack for your trip with some suggestions on beauty items that are must-haves for your summer getaway.

Traveling on a plane with liquids & gels

Your hairspray, foundation, and shampoos all fall into the ‘liquids and gels’ category. All of these items need to be under 3.4 ounces and placed carefully inside of a quart-size zipped plastic bags, such as Ziploc bags or a clear TSA-approved toiletry bags. For instance, if your spray tan bottle is larger than 3.4 ounces, all you need to do is place that inside of your checked luggage.

If you don’t need your entire bottle of shampoo for a trip, you can purchase travel-sized bottles and pour the liquid into them to carry on the plane or to store in your luggage.

Traveler Tip: I purchased all of my toiletries ahead of time and had them shipped to my hotel. I called to make sure they would secure the items for me, and they did! Each hotel can vary, so always call to make sure they’ll take care of your items.

Can I bring makeup on the plane?

Can I bring makeup on a plane?
I think we’ve all been that girl who does their face on public transportation before they reach their destination. There are a few rules for bringing makeup on a plane. Mascara, foundation, liquid highlighters and lip gloss items will go into that lovely quart-sized plastic bag we talked about earlier. Fortunately, your lipsticks, lip balms, lip liners, eyeliners (think solid and waxy products) and compact powders can be carried on the plane with no issues. Yup, makeup brushes are all fine to bring aboard!

Listen up! There is a little caveat with bringing large powder products on the plane. The new TSA powder rule states that any powder-like substances over 12 ounces could be subject to further screening. If you are planning to carry THAT much setting powder on the plane, you need to be prepared! Twelve ounces of setting powder would equal to twelve Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powders. I know I get oily during a flight, but I’m pretty sure you would only need just one jar.

How to Avoid Dehydration on a Plane

Dehydration can worsen not only jet lag, but also take a toll on your skin. At home, your humidity levels can fall between 40 to 70 percent–on a flight, that level drops down to 20 percent. There are a couple of things you can do to combat dehydration: Stay away from caffeine and alcohol, and drink electrolytes to keep your hydration levels up. Want to look refreshed like you’ve just had a pro facial when stepping off of the plane?  Nuvesse’s serum-infused masks and rollerball are packed full of hyaluronic acid and aloe vera to plump up and brighten dry skin while coasting at 35,000 feet.

Is nail care okay to bring on a plane?

Can I bring a nail file on a plane?

You can definitely bring a nail file—but just to be safe, leave the metal ones at home or in your checked in luggage. Same with nail clippers—just leave those in your luggage. You may be surprised to learn that tweezers are okay to bring on the plane!

When it comes to nail polish, you have to follow the rules and put it in the quart-sized plastic bag with your other liquids—but please do not paint your nails on the plane! The vapor would fill the entire cabin and it’s not polite.
