Fall Trends 2019

Beauty trends to try in fall 2019

Believe it or not, fall begins next month. I’m not ready to start brewing up some pumpkin spice lattes just yet, but I am exploring upcoming fall beauty trends that we’ll be seeing in the coming months ahead. I scoured the interwebs looking at NYFW runway trends for Fall/Winter and peeked at some of my favorite Instagram accounts. Here are a few of my favorite trends for fall 2019!

Buttery Skin Trend

Buttery Skin TrendTo best describe the buttery skin (sounds delicious!) makeup trend, I’d say it’s an all-over glow, rather than a strategically placed highlight glow. This look does not rely on skincare products to do all the work, but rather the makeup does all of the talking, er, glowing.

If you recall the Korean “glass skin” phenomenon that we saw trending this year, you may also remember that this look required several layers of skincare products plus makeup to achieve a healthy all-over sheen. Who has time for all of that? Now, I am not discouraging anyone from dropping their skincare routine. Please, do continue with all of your favorites, and don’t forget your weekly hydrating masks and serums!

To get this look, you will need freshly washed and hydrated skin. I prefer using full coverage, yet dewy foundation for this look and I highly recommend the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation with SPF 50 to even out the skin and conceal any blemishes. After that I applied, I take a dime-sized amount of the Milani Cosmetics Soft Focus Glow in Golden Glow on my fingertips and pat it all over my skin. You can alternatively mix this glowing cream in with the foundation as well if you want a more subtle look.

TIPS: If your skin is a bit too oily this time of year, you can opt for a powder highlighter instead of the cream. I recommend the Jeffree Star Cosmetics Skin Frost in Sarcophagus dusted on with a fluffy brush.

Monochromatic Terra Cotta Makeup Trend

Monochromatic Terra Cotta Makeup

I like monochromatic makeup due to the fact that it is quick with a no-brainer application. The look that you see above was snapped directly off of the Cushnie Fall/Winter 2019 runway. Backstage makeup artist Grace Lee explained that the terra cotta hued look was created using  Maybelline’s Color Sensational Made lipstick in Mauve-For-Me or Spice-for-Me on the eyes, lips, and cheeks. What is wonderful about these lipsticks are that Maybelline tested these shades on fifty diverse skintones–meaning that they created these colors to suit all skin tones!

TIPS: If you are in a pinch, you can apply the lipstick to your eyes, lips, and cheeks with a fingertip and blend. If you prefer that your fingers stay off of your makeup products, you can opt to use a sheer blending brush for all over color, like the Chanel Dual-Tip Concealer Brush which has one flat end for applying cream-based products and a round end for blending. For the cheeks, you can use your blending sponge for a quick application.

Bambi Lashes Trend

Bambi Lashes
Brandon Maxwell Fall 2019 Runway | Photo: IMAXtree

Think back to the eyelashes of the 60s–wide-eyed with a little help of liquid liner to create faux bottom lashes. The trend is back, but not as dramatic as the lashes that model Twiggy Lawson made famous in the late 1960s. This lash trend is a little tamer and wearable but may take a bit of practice to master.

Backstage at Anna Sui’s NYFW Fall/Winter 2019 show, makeup artist Pat McGrath explained that brows are taking a “backseat” next season and that heavy lashes are making their way to the forefront of beauty. Volumizing mascaras will be flying off of the shelves, and McGrath developed her own mascara to create this “doll-eye” look herself: FetishEyes Mascara.

TIPS: When using a volumizing mascara, try to stick to using just one coat. Attempting to apply a second coat may result in unflattering tarantula lashes. I recommend using a lash primer first to help plump and separate the lashes before using mascara: Dior’s DiorShow Maximizer 3D Primer. To complete the doll eye, or “Bambi” lash look, you can opt to apply very thin vertical lines with a liquid liner between your bottom lashes to create a faux lash look.

Messy BunMessy Buns

Now here’s a hairstyle we can all relate to–the messy bun! The messy bun is thankfully on-trend for fall, but there is a twist! The hair is sleek and shiny and combed up into the elastic band into a ponytail. Then it is teased a bit before it is wound around the hair elastic to create a voluminous messy look. The bun can be worn high or low. I personally think the low bun looks a bit dressed up as the high bun appears a bit more casual (think “sweater weather” hair).

TIPS: I prefer to use spiral hair ties over regular elastic bands. I have thick, coarse hair and I usually break any hair tie! With the spiral ties, I have witnessed no breakage and it is easy on the hair. After I tease my ponytail with a comb, I like to loosely pin down my bun with bobby pins as I wrap it, just to make sure it is secure.

Blunt Bob Haircut

Blunt Bob Haircut Everyone is rocking the blunt bob these days: Hailey Bieber, Ayesha Curry, and so many other celebs have chopped their hair this summer. This hairstyle is going to go hard in fall as well. Although the style itself is low maintenance, you will need to ensure you go in for a trim every three to six weeks to maintain that blunt cut look.

TIPS: You will most likely need to invest in a good flat iron if your hair is not straight enough to pull off this look. Try applying a shine product like Drybar’s The Chaser Shine Cream to damp hair before styling. You’ll need to wash more often with a shorter hairstyle, so you’ll want to invest in a hair powder to keep that volume and oil under control. Try Oribe Swept Up Hair Volume Powder to spray on the roots daily.

Copper Red HairCopper Red Hair

Coppery red hair looks so beautiful against the fall leaves. If you are daring enough to try red yourself, fall will be the season to see red! Of course, with red hair, you need to be very careful if you are going to DIY it at home. You can take a simple quiz on Madison Reed’s website to determine if you are a good candidate for DIY red hair dye. I personally failed the quiz when I said I wanted to dye my hair red again after dying it black and blue ombre. Oops! Unfortunately, I have to fade my hair naturally before going any lighter, but for the rest of you, you may be in luck!

TIPS: I’ve had red hair for many years, and I can attest to the fact that red hair dye FADES. Lucky for us, there are many brands that carry a line of color depositing shampoo. My favorite brand is Celeb Luxury, and they carry many shades of red to quench your desire to maintain or enhance vibrant red hair.

Rich Red Lips

Red Lips

There is nothing shy or sheer about this fall’s red lip trend. Pat McGrath is back to bring us another trend for the season at Chloe’s NYFW Fall/Winter 2019 runway. The lips that McGrath created are vibrant, opaque, and seen here with extreme definition. These are fierce lips! All I can think of is Pat McGrath’s Exxotica lipstick for fall, which is the perfect violet-based burgundy red shade that will set the mood.

TIPS: If you’re like me, red lipstick bleeds. My trick is to apply a high-quality lip liner on the entire lip area first. Try Pat McGrath’s Manhattan lip liner around the lip line, then blend onto the rest of the lips with a lip brush. Apply your lipstick, then blot on a tissue, then reapply. You should be good for your morning coffee!

Boost your collagen

How to boost your collagen for youthful skin

If you are a frequent skincare consumer (or read beauty articles), you’ve without a doubt read that collagen is essential for maintaining a youthful appearance. You know it’s vital to your skin, and you especially know it is something you need in your anti-aging routine. But what is collagen, and how can you really boost it? Does consuming it make you look younger, or is it a buzzword used in beauty marketing? Let’s take a closer look at collagen and what modern tools are needed to keep it flowing.

Different types of collagen

To simplify collagen’s definition, it is a protein that creates structure all over your body, including the structure of your face, fingernails, and bones. It acts as a cement that glues together cells to create supportive strands. Although there are 28 types of collagen in our body, there are only five significant types of collagen that are the most crucial.

According to renewalliance.com, Type I Collagen is the most abundant in our body (over 90%) and stronger than steel by weight. It is found in our skin, hair, nails, muscle, joints, and organs.

Type II Collagen makes up movable joints.

Type III (the so-called ‘baby collagen’) is the second most abundant collagen in human tissue.

Type IV forms basal lamina, the epithelium-secreted layer of the basement membrane.

Type V is present in cell surfaces, hair and placenta.

Did you know that collagen was this important to your body as a whole? It is the key protein that creates beautiful and healthy-looking skin.

What happens to collagen as we age?Mature woman's skin

The bad news about collagen is that we lose it. When we turn about 25 years of age, our collagen production starts to put on the brakes a bit, then slows down dramatically after age 30. We lose about 1-2% of collagen each year after 30! You will inevitably compromise your collagen levels if you smoke cigarettes or get too much sun or pollution exposure.

When you start to see lines and wrinkles form on the face, your Type 1 and Type 5 collagen is starting to slow down in production. Usually, it is around this time when consumers begin to panic and buy every anti-aging cream on the market in hopes to reverse the damage. While the world isn’t going to end when you get crow’s feet, it may cause you to start to explore anti-aging options that are out on the market.

What can you do to boost collagen?

There are plenty of products on the market that claim to be the fountain of youth, but are you willing to go through expensive and exhaustive trials to find out? Here are two suggestions that combine natural collagen boosters along with some help from laser technology to help create firmer and more supple skin.

Zint Collagen

Supplements

One way many consumers get their daily dose of collagen is to consume it through supplements. This subject is controversial because there have not been many scientific studies done on the effects of consumed collagen yet. Studies that were conducted were performed on very small groups, although the results reported have so far been impressive.

A study done in 2014 of 69 women ages 35 to 55 found that those who consumed 2.5 or 5 grams of collagen every day for two months showed improved elasticity of the skin compared with the group that did not take the collagen.

According to WebMD.com, U.S. consumers were expected to spend $122 million on collagen products in 2018–30% up from 2017. As you can see from this example, collagen supplements and products are a seriously growing trend–but according to doctors, the quality of the supplement is important.

According to WebMD.com, you should choose a collagen supplement from a company that chooses their bones and tissues from cage-free, free-range, and antibiotic-free sources. They also suggest that you shop around for a trusted brand with a third-party label, like NSF or USP. WebMD also suggests that you stay clear of collagen supplements that contain probiotics, fiber, or other types of additives which could interact with the collagen and make it less effective.

OrganicAuthority.com has a nice top 10 collagen supplements list, where their choices were determined using sources like the FDA and the non-GMO Project.

Laser technologyTria SmoothBeauty Age-Defying Laser

Today’s skin rejuvenating lasers, like Tria’s SmoothBeauty Laser for the face and the SmoothBeauty Eye Wrinkle Laser, are made to penetrate the surface of the skin using a non-ablative fractional laser that does not wound the skin as the stronger ablative laser does. These lasers have several benefits that include stimulating collagen production to fade wrinkles and smooth out the texture and exfoliating the surface of the skin to help brighten dark areas and give the skin a healthy glow.

How non-ablative fractional lasers work: The laser’s heat promotes collagen production, which triggers the skin to tighten up. Thousands of tiny columns are created by the fractional laser to stimulate a healing response, resulting in less visible crepey-ness and wrinkles along with a smoother texture.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), non-ablative laser treatments cost about $1,031 per session in the medical office, and it will take several sessions for most people in order to see good results. Tria’s SmoothBeauty Lasers for at-home use target beams of light deep within the skin to stimulate collagen production the same way that professional laser treatments do. In other words, you’re getting the same technology, but for a fraction of the cost of one session of laser treatment. No trips to the clinic and everything is done on your schedule!

Apply the sunscreen!

One more tip that will help you save your precious collagen: Use SPF 30 or more. A majority of your collagen is lost through UV exposure, so make sure you find a good SPF moisturizer or sunblock that you can wear daily.

Hair tools to get perfect summer waves and curls

As the summer heats up, all us ladies want is an easy hairstyle we can do without sweating, am I right? Some of us were born with natural silky waves in their hair, and some of us have coarse, dry, and flat hair that does nothing good right out of the shower. I personally have naturally red hair, so my hair is thick, coarse, and my “waves” are far from glamorous. I just want to put on my favorite Tria face mask and throw my hair in a bun for the day, but there are weddings to attend and cocktail parties to mingle at, so I really can’t just douse my hair with sea salt spray and hope for perfect waves.

If you are like me, you need a hot tool to make your hairstyles work. There are many good hot tools on the market that will quickly and easily give you that glam mermaid beach wave look or a soft curl that will turn heads. This list of products below is my top choices for hot tools that are quick and easy to use for the prettiest hair you can achieve in this hot weather.

Chi Air Spin n Curl

Chi Spin n Curl Yes, this hair gadget looks like a tulip. What this tulip does is very cool. With heat settings up to 410 degrees, a section of hair is automatically drawn into the ceramic curl chamber where it is heated around a 1-inch barrel. You hold the curler until the timer goes off and you withdraw the hair from the device. It also provides negative ions to reduce frizz and add shine! Chi Air Spin n CurlWhat I love about this device is the versatility it allows you to have. You can create a loose wave look in five minutes–even with long hair! You will definitely want to invest in a good hairspray to hold your style longer. I love the Superfine Strong Hairspray by Oribe to lock my waves in place (plus it smells divine!).  The Chi Air Spin n Curl retails for $139.99.

The Beachwaver Co.  Beachwaver Pro Line 1.25-Inch Rotating Curling IronThe Beachwaver Co. Beachwaver Pro Line 1.25-Inch Rotating Curling Iron

If you desire a voluminous blowout without the hot blow dryer, look no further than the Beachwaver Pro 1.25-inch iron! A lot of ladies tell me that they can’t achieve a blow out due to several reasons–the wrist-breaking motion that you have to do while holding the dryer and the brush is a pain. Don’t give up! The large ceramic barrel on this iron actually rotates with the push of a button, so you barely have to do any work at all!

The Beachwaver

After you’ve created your curls, you can add some mega shine to it by adding a shine serum to it–but not too much! Women love the Oscar Blandi Jasmine Hair Oil for taming frizzies and adding a mirror-like shine. The Beachwaver iron will cost you $199 retail, but look for a good sale and you might snag a bargain on one.

Amika High Tide Deep Waver

Amika Deep WaverIf you desire very deep waves, like a mermaid’s hair, but a bit more modern, this is your tool! This tool uses a clamp and hold technique that is much different from the tools I’ve shown you so far. The brand Amika suggests using their Bushwick Beach Spray first before using the hot iron to give your hair texture and a bit of hold. Amika Deep WaveAs you can see in the photo above, the waves are a bit undone and more “beachy” than glam. If that’s the look you are going for, then this tool is your new friend. The Amika Deep Waver retails for $120.

Dyson AirWrapDyson Air Wrap

This next product is a pricey one, but you get A LOT of bang for your buck, plus you are paying for Dyson quality. I am pretty sure this item was on everyone’s holiday wishlist last year, and some of us lucky gals were able to get one. Some of us, like me, are still dreaming about it and have watched every Dyson Airwrap YouTube video demo on the planet.

The cool technology behind this product is the air suction that attracts your hair to the barrel of the interchangeable styling heads. With little effort, the barrel not only curls your hair, but it also dries it, making it easy to use on damp hair. It includes a lot of attachment heads with a storage case–check out this list:

  • 1.2 inch Airwrap barrels-Engineered to create voluminous curls or waves.
  • 1.6 inch Airwrap barrels-Engineered to create loose curls or waves.
  • Firm smoothing brush-Engineered to smooth and control frizz-prone hair.
  • Soft smoothing brush-Engineered to gently align and smooth fine hair.
  • Round volumizing brush-Engineered to volumize and shape fine, flat hair.
  • Pre-styling dryer-Takes hair from wet to damp, to prep for styling.

Dyson AirwrapThere seems to be a big learning curve when using the curling barrels. There are arrows that point in the direction that your hair will go, and you do have to swap barrels when styling the other side of your head. Seems annoying, but also worth the fact that this product doesn’t damage your hair. If you do use hot tools daily, then you know how much damage your hair does suffer–does that make this Dyson product worth $550? I personally think it does if you break down the cost of each item that you are getting if you were to buy everything separately. I also think that not damaging your hair and still being able to style it beautifully is definitely worth it!

TYME Iron ProTyme Iron Pro

If you are looking for an all-in-one tool that straightens, curls and creates waves, the TYME Iron Pro is going to be your holy grail. With heat settings up to 400 degrees, this iron is designed for all hair types. The titanium plates heat up to your desired heat setting in 55 seconds! What I thought was really great about the brand is that they offer free one-on-one appointments with a Virtual Stylist! This is pretty groundbreaking for a company to video chat with you and help guide you to a beautiful hairstyle. Customer service at its best! Tyme Iron Pro I went in to watch a few beauty guru demos of the TYME iron, and it seems that a few of them were holding the iron wrong and ended up damaging their hair! There’s definitely a learning curve with this one, but once you get the hang of it, you can get your hair done quickly and out the door to your BFF’s wedding on time. The TYME Iron Pro retails for $199 but is currently on sale for $169.

T3 Convertible Collection

T3 Convertible Collection Perfect for the pro stylist or the girl that wants it all, the T3 Convertible Collection comes with one base and seven different interchangeable styling barrels. You don’t have to buy the entire collection all at once, which is what I did. I purchased the base with the T3 Twirl Convertible 1.25-Inch Interchangeable Clip Barrel Curling Iron for $195 and if  I want to purchase a different barrel, I can do so for $95. T3 Convertible If you change your hairstyle from season to season, you will love being able to store away the barrels you don’t use and spend your summer with the 1″ Straight Barrel to get tousled waves like you see above. If you insist on having all of the barrels, the entire T3 Convertible Collection retails $765 but is currently on sale for $525.

Bed Head Wave Artist Deep WaverBedhead Waver

This one’s for my drugstore girls! If you aren’t looking to spend a bundle for a luxury hot tool, then you must check out the Bed Head Wave Artist Deep Waver. This works just like the crimping irons we had in the 80s where you have to clamp and hold the tool against your hair and release. For just under $17, this iron can be yours on Amazon.com, but to be honest, I just purchased the latest model for under $30 that features auto-shutoff and a heavier coating of tourmaline coating for less damage.

Bed Head Deep Waver I’m really looking forward to trying my new Deep Waver Iron! I also want to share two of my big hair secrets before I go. For heat protection, I use the Sexy Hair Tri-Wheat Leave-In Conditioner every time I use my hairdryer on wet hair. This spray has been a lifesaver as I am trying to grow my hair long. Another must-have product is the Nature’s Bounty Hair, Skin and Nails Gummies–with 2500 mcg of Biotin per serving, this has really helped my hair grow faster and thicker. You’ll love the taste of these because it’s just like eating candy in the morning!

Summer 2019 Nail Trends

Summer nail trends that are all over social media

If there’s one thing we will never get sick of looking at on our Instagram feed, it is images of nail art. Every year, we seem to cross paths with the most outrageous nail designs, including this “hairy legs” nail design that you can actually shave. We feel inclined to send them a Tria Hair Removal Laser 4X! All jokes aside, we found some incredibly cool and stunning nail trends that your nail artist can hopefully recreate for you this summer.

FLORAL NAILS

If you aren’t following @heymichellelee on IG, you need to do so. Her nail art is breathtaking and she is not scared to go abstract or use uncommon colors in her palette. Your nails will need to be a medium length for this look to work–the design is concentrated on the tips of the nail area. If your nails are shorter, you could ask your nail artist to paint two flowers and a leaf design over the top.

Ladies with shorter nails are going to love this! We are head over heels for this unique floral design. It looks as if the nail artist applied some type of orange-colored acrylic nail powder in a teardrop shape to the tip of the nails first, then applied the flowers with a very tiny brush. Whatever method they used, it looks gorgeous!

TORTOISE SHELL NAILS

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by ОФИЦИАЛЬНАЯ СТРАНИЧКА 💜 (@mashacreate.nails) on

Out of all of the nail trends, this is our favorite! The tortoise shell nail trend looks good on all nail sizes and looks fairly easy to achieve. In the video clip above, the nail artist mixes and applies the perfect antique yellow sheer base color first and then applies the red color in blotches with another coat of the yellow on top of that, and so on! The key of the look is the amazing dimension that the artist creates in layers.

Another beautiful variation of the tortoise shell nails, the nail artist carefully painted the design just on the tips! Who else is calling their nail salon right now to book this for the weekend?

LIME GREEN NAILS

We mentioned the lime green nail trend earlier last month, and apparently, it is still a thing! We love this variation to the trend by adding a few kiwi designs to the center nails. Rihanna was spotted earlier this year with her flawless lime manicure, and it set off a trend. Just a warning–this lime green shade doesn’t look flattering on all skin tones. Make sure you ask your nail artist to try the color on one nail first before committing!

CLOUD NAILS

There are many cloud nail designs on social media, but these, in particular, called out to us. If you don’t want to get into the “cartoony” cloud designs, this watercolor-like technique looks like it was mastered by an artist that was very experienced. If you don’t want to take a chance with a botched nail job, you might want to try nail wraps at home. You can upload your own photos and designs to create custom nail wraps if you want to take your nail designs into your own hands.

MERMAID NAILS

Our first mermaid set of 2019 😍🐚🌊

A post shared by ROSA BLUSH || RITA R. (@rosablushstudio) on

Summer would not be complete without a set of mermaid nail art! The time and patience that went into this nail set are astounding. Let’s hope this client doesn’t have to use their hands much for the next few weeks–we’d be so afraid to break a nail!

💎Royal blue💎

A post shared by The Nail Room (@blondie_0223) on

Thankfully you can still rock the mermaid nail trend without the painted scales and glued-on seashells. You can opt for your favorite shade of blue as your base color and paint a few nails with an iridescent glitter or chrome polish to give the illusion of scales.

CORAL NAILS

Living Coral is Pantone’s Color of the Year 2019, so it is no surprise that this summer is exploding with coral-hued nails on social media. This beautiful shade looks good on everyone (in our opinion!) and can even enhance the color of your summer tan! If coral is your summer go-to shade for everything from clothing to nail color, now is the time to stock up!

If you try any of the trends mentioned above, please tag us @triabeauty so we can share the love with you!

Best summer sunscreen for the face

Best summer sunscreens for the face

When you were a kid, do you remember someone putting really white sunscreen on your face when you were about to go into the summer sun? Do you remember sunscreen having a particular smell such as coconut or just very “tropical”? It seems that as a child, there was only one type of sunscreen and it was slathered on both your face and body. Now, in 2019 as grown adults, we have different skincare needs, desires and personal preferences such as a vegan, gluten-free, all-natural physical sunscreen that blocks out UVA/UVB and blue light in BPA-free packaging. Do such things exist? You bet they do.

There are literally thousands of sunscreen choices with many different features and varying price points. To sift through everything would take a long time, but we’ve managed to hone in on dermatologist-recommended and beauty guru-approved choices that we think you will love. Read on to see what we’ve picked and why we love them!

Face Sunscreen For All Skin Types

COOLA Full Spectrum 360° Sun Silk Drops SPF 30 With Sephora’s Clean At Sephora label, it is easy to navigate their website and find products that contain no harsh chemicals. As adults, we should be concerned with aging and skin damage caused by the sun, but we also need to be aware of the ingredients of what is in our skincare as well.

The COOLA Full Spectrum 360° Sun Silk Drops SPF 30 ($46, 1 oz.) is the perfect face sunscreen for those who want a lightweight feel but wants to cover all of their protection bases, including a shield from broad spectrum UVA/UVB, IR (infrared), and HEV (high energy visible) Light. This product doesn’t just protect you from outside aggressors, it also protects you from digital overexposure from your devices (hello, Instagram and YouTube!). What’s worse about the blue-violet light emitting from your devices is that it penetrates deeper into the skin than the sun’s UV rays, causing premature aging. Luckily, there are many sunscreens that now include protection from blue light, just like COOLA’s organic formula, that you can wear daily without a greasy feel.

Best Sunscreen to Wear Under Makeup

Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 If you wear makeup, the last thing you want to worry about is a thick layer of sunscreen under your foundation. Some foundations offer a level of SPF protection, but does it truly block out blue light and the sun’s rays? You definitely want to be sure you are protected, especially during the summer. When you wear sun protection under foundation, we are sure you will want something undetectable, light-weight, and acts as a moisturizer.

Behold the Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 ($32, 1.7 oz). It not only helps your makeup stay on longer, but it features a little bit of a glow so that you can rock this sunscreen without makeup and still look fab! This formula also protects your face from blue light with natural red algae–which also adds softness to your skin. People love this sunscreen so much, that it was the Allure Best of Beauty winner in 2018.

Water-Resistant Face Sunscreen for Swimmers

Pacifica Mineral Face Shade Coconut Probiotic SPF 30There are some important tips that you’ll need to know if you plan on swimming outdoors this summer. The number one thing you need to do before heading out is to apply a water-resistant sunscreen 15 minutes in advance. After one hour to eighty minutes of swimming, you will need to reapply to the exposed areas once again. This is a step that a lot of people forget to take, then end up with a bad burn later. If you towel dry off, then you will need to immediately reapply your sunscreen.

For the face, we did some research to find a good sunscreen that is mineral-based and will last on the face for up to two hours! The Pacifica Mineral Face Shade Coconut Probiotic SPF 30 ($13, 1.7 oz) features a coconut probiotic which adds a superpower punch of hydration to the skin. For those looking for a vegan and cruelty-free option, Pacifica is your brand!

Face Sunscreen for Oily Skin

Clinique City Block Sunscreen
If you have oily skin, you know that the last thing you want to apply to your face is a heavy and greasy sunscreen product. Those types of products definitely do exist, and we will do our best to help you avoid it. Also, you may wonder what could work under makeup as well as protect–and for acne sufferers–you are probably a little paranoid about purchasing anything that isn’t labeled non-comedogenic. After doing a little digging, we found something!

The CLINIQUE Super City Block Oil-Free Daily Face Protector Broad Spectrum 40 SPF ($26.50, 1.4 oz) is not only non-acnegenic, but it is perfectly lightweight for daily use under makeup for all skin types–even for oily and really sensitive skin! This invisible sunscreen features broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sun-blocking ingredients and antioxidants. Since you want to avoid mineral oil in your facial sunscreen, you will be glad to know that this one doesn’t have any oil or fragrance to cause irritation.

Tinted Sunscreen

MyChelle Sun Shield Liquid Tint SPF 50 You are probably going to wonder why you had not heard of this sooner–but there are tinted facial sunscreens out there and we are very excited to have finally discovered its existence! If you want to skip the two-step process of layering sunscreen and then your foundation, then a tinted sunscreen is your new favorite.

During a trip to Sprouts, we found the perfect product for covering redness and evening out the skin tone while adding sun protection. The MyChelle Sun Shield Liquid Tint SPF 50 ($24, 1 oz) is the perfect oil-free matte tinted sunscreen that is 100% mineral broad-spectrum protection. The added Bentonite helps to absorb excess oil and impurities from pores. The product is reef safe, cruelty-free, and vegan! There are two shades available, but you can also purchase it without a tint.

Best All-Natural Face Sunscreen

Raw Elements FACE + BODY SPF 30 There are both good oils and bad oils that you can apply to your skin. For years, consumers have been told to avoid oil at all costs when it comes to buying skincare, and only just recently, face oils are one of the biggest trends in beauty. The trick is knowing which face oils to avoid and which ones are going to benefit your particular needs.

The Raw Elements FACE + BODY SPF 30 ($18.99, 3 oz.) has so many beautiful ingredients on their list, and you will recognize everything in it. The active ingredient is zinc, which will act as a reflective shield from the sun. The rest of the ingredient list is simple: Sunflower Oil, Green Tea, Black Tea, Coffee Bean, Hemp Seed Oil, Cocoa Butter, Mango Butter, Beeswax, Rosemary Oil Extract, Vitamin E. Sounds good enough to eat, right?

Best Powder Sunscreen for the FaceColorescience Sunforgettable Brush-On Shield SPF 50

Convenience is key when you are traveling–especially when it comes to your beauty products. Broken makeup compacts and foundation bottles are very common during air travel–unfortunately–but there are products that are designed to go with you wherever in the world you are.

Since reapplying sunscreen is so important during the summer, it can be frustrating to have to stop and apply a cream to your face every two hours, especially if you don’t want to carry a heavy bottle in your bag. There is a solution for those that want a quick dab of sunscreen without too much hassle. The Colorescience Sunforgettable Brush-On Shield with SPF 50 ($65, 0.21 oz) is a color-correcting on-the-go face powder in a brush that protects from UVA/UVB rays as well as blue light, and is water resistant! This 100% chemical-free, zinc-based powder contains hyaluronic acid to restore moisture with green tea and grape seed extracts to help battle the signs of aging. Just pop the brush in your bag and go!
