PCOS in women hair growth

PCOS and facial hair growth in women — can it be controlled with laser hair removal?

If you’re like me, you’ve woken up and faced the mirror, only to discover some new facial hair growth on your chin. For women, this can be a moment never to forget, and honestly, quite horrifying. Most of the women that I know who’ve experienced hirsutism, excessive facial hair growth caused by excess male hormones, have resorted to shaving daily, which can be time-consuming, irritating to the skin, and just downright depressing.

WHAT CAUSES FACIAL HAIR GROWTH IN WOMEN?

Many women with facial hair growth have been diagnosed (or undiagnosed) with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome 1), which affects one out of ten women, according to womenshealth.gov. In short, women with PCOS can experience multiple bubble-like cysts that form on the surface of one or both ovaries. These cysts are eggs that are partially mature but do not release and remain in their follicles. The unfortunate result of this means that the egg cannot become fertilized, making PCOS one of the leading causes of infertility in women. Some of the other PCOS symptoms include infrequent or irregular periods, acne due to excess male hormones, and 50% will develop Type 2 Diabetes before the age of 40.

CAN YOU TREAT EXCESSIVE HAIR GROWTH WITH LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

The good news is that Tria Beauty’s line of hair removal lasers can help reduce hair growth in women with excess (or unwanted) hair. As we see in the video (posted below) that guest stars customer Amruta Ray from pcos_made_me_do_it on Instagram, she can control the excess hair growth on her chin area with regular use of the Tria 4X Hair Removal Laser. Amruta uses the laser once every two weeks on hair growth areas and has noticed a considerable difference in about five treatments or 2.5 months. Less hair on the chin has made Amruta very happy and more confident in her appearance!

The 4X laser targets the pigment in the hair follicle, just like professional lasers in a clinical setting. The disabled hair begins to fall out, leaving behind more touchable, softer skin. Over time, the laser permanently disables the hair follicles’ ability to regrow hair. It is important to note that women with PCOS will most likely not experience permanent hair loss with the laser due to the excess male hormones in the body. The laser can help manage the hair growth, and the facial areas will need to be treated on an ongoing basis.

PCOS AWARENESS MONTH IS IN SEPTEMBER

September is PCOS Awareness Month, and we would like to invite women that have had success with our Precision or 4X Laser to talk about your experiences on Instagram Live. Watch our video below to learn more about Amruta’s experience with laser hair removal.

50% of women go undiagnosed with PCOS, according to US News. If you experience any of the symptoms we mentioned above, consult your gynecologist to request testing.

Tria SmoothBeauty Eye Wrinkle Laser

Anti-aging skincare routine for under eye wrinkles

We all age differently–some of us see the first signs of aging around our mouth or eyes, and some of us seem to wake up suddenly with a face full of lines. I definitely started seeing my first signs of aging under my eyes when I turned 40, and I knew that the car of eye cream I had been using for over 10 years wasn’t going to perform a miracle. I needed something more! When I discovered the SmoothBeauty Eye Wrinkle Laser combined with good skincare products, I noticed those pesky lines that bothered me are now a thing of the past!

Let’s dive into this effective skincare routine that is customized just for the under-eye area!

How does non-ablative laser work under the eyes?

Tria’s Eye Wrinkle Laser uses non-ablative laser technology to help promote collagen production, which aids in smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles (yes, crow’s feet!) under the eyes. This small and mighty laser works by delivering a beam of light that promotes cellular renewal. The laser sensation does feel like a bit of heat and a slight vibration. I prefer to use my laser at night due to the redness that may occur after the treatment. I do treatments for 8 weeks (at least 5 days per week) and then take a 4-week break and do another 8 weeks (then repeat the process).

Within a 2-week period, I noticed the fine lines on the outside of my eye area were basically gone! The smoother area under my eye creates the perfect canvas for applying my concealer and powder, without creasing up or settling in the lines.

The above image is an actual photo from one of Tria’s clinical studies. Clearly, you can see a brighter under eye area with visibly fewer lines and folds under the eye. With the help of the laser, the collagen production that results will fill in the lines and smooth out the area without the use of fillers or Botox, and without making appointments at a clinic.

Skincare routine

To calm redness and to relieve any dryness that may occur after laser treatments under the eyes, Tria has specially formulated skincare products to not only calm and soothe the skin, but to help you maintain your daily anti-aging routine.

Immediately following your nightly laser treatment, our Nourishing Eye Renewal Cream will soothe redness and cool down the area before you sleep. This cream replenishes moisture and reduces the appearance of puffiness, fine lines, and wrinkles. It is specially formulated with Hyaluronic Acid and Ginger Extract to help soothe and hydrate laser-treated skin, along with Retinol to help minimize fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes. Bonus: the metal applicator helps calm and cool skin after laser treatment.

To really rake in the benefits of your laser, the use of our Nuvesse Tired Eyes, Puffiness and Dark Circles Regimen Kit will give your eyes an extra boost of anti-aging power if used once per week. This eye mask kit also contains a serum roller that you may use daily under your eye cream treatment. The eye masks contain vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and camellia seed oil significantly increase hydration brightening the look of dark circles and diminishing the look of fine lines and puffy eyes. These work great right before a special event and help concealer look smoother.

Simple steps to dazzling eyes

To recap the steps to amazing, younger-looking eyes here are the three steps you need to take!

  1. Use the SmoothBeauty Eye Wrinkle Laser at night on clean and dry skin.
  2. Apply the Tria Nourishing Eye Renewal Cream following the treatment.
  3. In the AM, apply the Nuvesse serum roller under the eyes and pat your eye cream on top. Be sure to use the Nuvesse eye masks once per week and use the serum in the AM daily!

How to get the most from your Tria 4X Hair Removal Laser

Hearing about an at-home hair removal laser for the first time could sound too good to be true. With so many beauty devices claiming to do everything from plumping your lips to reducing cellulite, it’s hard to decide where to direct your attention! If you’re in the market for a laser hair removal device at the fraction of the cost at a clinic, then you’ve come to the right place. Tria has done extensive clinical research on their hair removal laser devices like the 4X and Precision lasers, and they are all FDA-cleared.

Sound good so far? Keep reading to find out how to take care of your hair removal laser once you’ve made the purchase.

Keep it clean

The laser window of your Tria laser needs to be cleaned before every use with an alcohol wipe or alcohol on a cotton round. Oils from the body or residue from our Phytograph Soothing Gel can block the laser light from penetrating through the glass if the window is dirty.

Tria 4X Hair Removal Laser

Juice the battery

There is an internal lithium battery housed inside of both the Precision and 4X hair removal lasers. This means there are no cords plugged into the wall while you are using the device, but you will need to charge it up when the battery gets low. Make sure you fully charge your Tria laser before using it to make sure you have enough power to get through your session. Also, it is very important that you do not store your Tria laser away in the closet for a few years. The battery will drain, and you might not be able to turn it on again! Make sure you charge your devices at least once every three months to keep that battery active!

Watch customer and influencer reviews on the Tria 4X on YouTube!

Overlapping pattern

A useful tip when using your device is to make sure you get EVERY hair follicle. An easy way to do that is to overlap your treatment pattern. As you lift your device to move onto the next treatment area, don’t jump far ahead. Move it very slightly into the next direction, overlapping the section you just treated. This will ensure you don’t miss any spots!

Soothing gel

If you feel that your treatments are a little too “zappy”, you can use the Phytograph Soothing Gel to help soothe the treatment areas beforehand. You will have to purchase this gel at the same time that you buy your laser, so keep that in mind!

Don’t miss a treatment

Consistency is key when using your hair removal laser. Tria recommends using the laser once every two weeks until the hair has stopped growing. Some customers have reported hair loss after three treatments, some take twelve. Don’t waste your time doing treatments more frequently than every two weeks; your hair growth cycle will affect each hair on your body, and every hair is in a different phase! You’ll notice that there are hairs that will not grow back, but others will still persist after treatments. Those growing hairs will eventually cease to grow back, but they possibly will keep popping up until they are treated during a certain growth phase. Set a calendar reminder so that you won’t miss a treatment!

Laser hair removal summer safety tips

Laser Hair Removal Summer Tips

Waiting all year for the glory of the summer sun is definitely a highlight for those finally coming out of quarantine. While some of us are still waiting for our community pools and beaches to open, there are a lot of people wondering how to tame hair growth before stepping out in their short shorts. There are many customers coming to us saying they’ve been waiting forever to get into a laser hair removal clinic, and turned to Tria Beauty for their at-home hair removal needs while on lockdown. (Thank you!) Now that the sun has made its appearance, there are a few tidbits you should know about before starting your laser hair removal journey for the summer.

We’ve wrangled some handy guidelines from our wonderful customer care team here at Tria as well as tips from the experts at Boomboombrowbar.com.

TIP #1 – Minimize or avoid sun exposure

As we all know, sun exposure makes your skin more sensitive, especially during the summer months. When you are frolicking about on the beaches in Hawaii, your skin will become more sensitive to heat than ever–think about that time when you had a sunburn and took a hot shower–ouch!! Since hair removal lasers use heat, the treatment will not only sting, but it may cause burns and even scarring. Not worth the risk! Avoid the sun at least 24 to 48 hours before and after sun exposure, and definitely do not treat any areas with a sunburn.

Keep in mind that the areas that could be the most sensitive to the sun are the face, arms, hands, feet, and legs. For men that worship the sun, that could possibly be the chest and back area.

To help minimize sun exposure, always wear sunscreen! Use a broad-spectrum SPF sunscreen that shields you from both UVB and UVA rays. To keep your skin hydrated while using your laser, use the pre-treatment Soothing Gel, available in the 4X and Precision Laser Deluxe Kits.

TIP #2 – Avoid tanning

In order to effectively use our at-home hair removal lasers, there needs to be contrast between your skin tone and the body hair in order for the laser to target the melanin in the hair. Tanning the skin, whether you are doing sunless self-tanner, spray tanning, tanning beds, or tanning with the natural sun, your skin tone may become darker than your body hair color.

To find see if you are a candidate for at-home laser hair removal with Tria, you can scroll down on this page to see our skin tone and body hair color chart.

TIP #3 – Use caution when exfoliating

Because laser hair removal will cause your pores to open, you want to let your skin heal for at least 48 hours. Try to avoid the sauna, jacuzzi, swimming pool, or ocean swimming. You also want to avoid exfoliating your skin for about 5 days following your treatment. No loofah or scrubby sponges, salt or sugar scrubs for at least 5 days.

Best makeup of 2019

15 best beauty favorites of 2019

Every year, I release my “best of” beauty favorites list, and this year I found some pretty wonderful things! I’ve been working in various facets of the makeup industry for 19 years, and I’ve tried my fair share of foundations and shampoos over the years. As formulations improve and customer demands get stronger, thanks to the force of social media, beauty product quality and diversity are at an all-time high. What a lovely time it was in 2019 to watch the industry grow.

As we near the end of the decade, I reflect upon things like the baskets of foundations I tried until I found the perfect ones that would perfect my crazy complexion issues. I think about all of the eyebrow trends and how I bought hundreds of pencils, pomades and eyebrow tints to try to perfect a flawless brow. Let’s reel it in and make this post all about 2019–because this year rocked!

Best Makeup ToolsBest Beauty Tools 2019

Real Techniques Miracle Powder Sponge $5.99 and Brush Crush Foundation Brush $8.99

Every artist needs a good set of tools–but you don’t have to spend a fortune to own a great set! I’ve been a huge fan of the brand Real Techniques (founded by Sam and Nic Chapman of YouTube beauty guru status) because of the affordability and the quality. My latest discoveries are the Miracle Powder Sponge and the Brush Crush Foundation Brush.

The powder sponge is the best sponge I’ve found to date for setting your face flawlessly, using either loose or pressed powder. The velvety material used in the design works to pick up more product than a traditional sponge, making it the best tool for setting your under-eye area with powder, and for baking your face.

The Brush Crush foundation brush really surprised me. I am used to using a sponge primarily for applying foundation, but this one stood out to me for the bold design. I bought it on a whim and was happy to see that my full coverage foundation blended seamlessly and without streaking. As always, Real Techniques brushes are synthetic and no animals were harmed!

Best Foundation and Concealer

Best Foundation and Concealer 2019

Juvia’s Place I Am Magic Foundation $20 and Huda Beauty The Overachiever High Coverage Concealer $30

My skin is oily and troublesome–I break out easily and I’m sensitive. Finding the perfect foundation formula and color match is a tough combination. Just recently, I ran across the Juvia’s Place I Am Magic Foundation at Ulta and decided to give it a whirl. There are 42 shades to choose from, starting from darkest to lightest. I definitely found my shade AND the perfect full-coverage formula! The product is thick, but all you need is a small dab to make it work. The coverage is flawless, beautiful and long-lasting!

As you can tell, I am a fan of full coverage. What’s great about full-coverage is that you can use less on a damp blending sponge to create a sheer look. The best concealer I’ve tried this year is the Huda Beauty Overachiever High Coverage Concealer. It is not too watery and not too thick. The consistency is perfect for blending under the eyes and creates a very flawless finish. I normally use a damp sponge to blend this in with a dabbing of loose powder on top to set for the day.

Best Serum and Moisturizer

Best Face Serum and Moisturizer

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% $5.90 and Tria Super C Brightening Moisturizer $36 until 1/3 (Reg. price $60)

We all have different needs for our skin, but I think we all have a common goal: to have brighter, glowing, balanced skin. For me personally, I have dry and oily skin, which is an annoying combo! Along with that, I have to manage my large pores and any type of dead skin cells that get caught into those pores to cause nasty blackheads.

The Ordinary makes a serum that contains niacinamide (aka vitamin B), which can help fade everything from uneven skin tone blotches to help heal acne. It is labeled as being for all skin types, although I find that it does help reduce oils for the slick-skinned sisters like myself.

For those who use our SmoothBeauty Laser for the face, the Super C Brightening Moisturizer is an oil-based form of vitamin C, which has skin brightening properties. I love the way this feels after doing my laser treatments, and it helps keep the skin supple while I sleep. When you awake, your skin is glowing and ready for the day! The hyaluronic acid will help your skin retain its moisture, so you will love this formula if you experience dryness from the laser treatments.

Best Makeup Picks

Best makeup of 2019

So much makeup, so little time! I spend a lot of money on cosmetics every year to review for my blogs, and of course, a lot of those products turn out to be duds. I found a few stand out products this year in the color cosmetics realm–some are drugstore and some are luxury products–but they all performed magical things!

My first mention was a gift from a friend. The KKW (Kim Kardashian-West) Beauty Blossom Palette ($45) is a high-quality eyeshadow palette with an array of very wearable shades. The neutral choices are both matte and shimmery, and you can amp up the look using the darker plum and cranberry shades for a quick nighttime look. The cardboard palette design makes it easy for travel.

I am a huge fan of long-wear lipstick and the Rimmel Provocalips ($8.29) line is my first choice when searching for a lipstick for going out or for a long day at work. The satin gloss that is provided at the other end of the tube is a great choice for those that don’t want their lips to look overly glossy. It’s just the right amount of shine and moisture.

A good mascara is sometimes hard to find, am I right? Once in a while, I’ll find a super great mascara, and then it’s discontinued or there is something different about the formula later on. So frustrating. A little secret that I’ve learned in the business and from trial and error is that luxury mascaras, as expensive as they are, last longer than drugstore options due to better formulas. Most of my drugstore choices have dried up within a few weeks and don’t perform as well, while my department store collection still stays consistent for several months. One mascara that I fell in love with this year is the YSL The Shock mascara ($29). This is the most volumizing one of YSL’s collection and that’s no lie! The brush applies the right amount of product while it combs and coats your lashes for amazing thickness and volume.

Another luxury pick that I have been in love with is the amazing formula of the Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic Blush ($40). The unique design of the product allows you to apply the outer ring color to your cheek area, and the “pop” middle color to the center of your cheek for a dimensional look. I like the formula because it’s a very finely milled powder that looks smooth on the skin. Beware of the compact’s packaging when traveling, it is very thin and delicate!

Best Shampoo and ConditionerBest Shampoo and Conditioner

Biolage Colorlast Shampoo $28 for 33.8 oz. and Olaplex No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner $28 for 8.5 oz.

I often have to dye my hair–due to grays and because I prefer my hair to be a deep black shade. Finding a shampoo that won’t fade my color is pretty tough, even when the label says it’s safe for color-treated hair. I found Biolage Colorlast Shampoo to be one of the best shampoos I’ve found in decades. I don’t see a lot of color going down the drain during wash, but it also does an amazing job at cleaning my hair and scalp. No residue left behind!

As for the conditioner, I like to experiment. I have had Olaplex treatments done at my salon, but I did not know you can start purchasing their products to take home! I snatched up the Olaplex No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner, which helps tame frizz and makes my hair strong and healthy. You can find this product now at Ulta and Sephora. Tip: You only need to use a tiny bit of this! If you use too much, your hair is weighed down and greasy. Try to concentrate on the dry areas.

Best Beauty Tech

Best Beauty Technology

Tria SmoothBeauty Laser for the Face with Copper-Infused Sleeping Mask $376 through 1/3 (Reg. price $442) and Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer $59.99 and BlendSmart Foundation Brush $69

I’m obviously fascinated with beauty technology, and I love seeing what the latest trends are in hair, makeup, and anti-aging tech. As always, I’ve been a huge Tria fan, with my first product being the SmoothBeauty Laser for the face. I love the way my skin looks when I wake up in the morning–fresh, plumped, and young. At 43, I am mistaken for someone in their late 20s, early 30s. I can thank genetics for playing a part, but the laser really helps tune-up my skin to look its best for my age.

I spoke about my favorite hair products earlier, and when it comes to drying my hair, I cannot use a traditional hairdryer. My hair’s texture is thick and frizzy with no shine and basically unmanageable unless I use a hot tool on it. I discovered the Revlon Volumizer through a friend and I haven’t put it down since. It gives you that salon look that your stylist gives you when they use that big round brush and hairdryer on full blast. It’s pretty easy to use and doesn’t hurt your wrist while you are styling. When I’m finished, my hair looks shiny, smooth and the frizz is totally gone.

I mentioned my favorite foundation brush at the beginning of the blog post, but I also love to use the BlendSmart Foundation Brush with foundation, but mostly for use with my contour colors. The rotating brush design quickly applies and blends with an airbrush finish, and works especially well with deep contour colors that are hard to blend with a traditional brush. Plus, it’s fun to use!

Well, there you have it! My list is complete for the year 2019! Are we ready for a new decade of beauty yet?
