Kevin J. Appelbaum
President and CEOKevin has served as TRIA Beauty's President & CEO since 2008. For more than 20 years, as both an operating executive and strategic advisor, he has driven companies at every stage of development. Since 2001, Kevin has focused on developing innovative products, services, and business models at the intersection of traditional healthcare and consumer industries.
In 2010, Kevin founded and currently serves as Chairman of the Board at Medley Health, a company that delivers primary healthcare services to improve patient and physician satisfaction and healthcare outcomes. Kevin also serves on the board of directors at Ventus Medical, a company that creates novel medical devices for the treatment of sleep disordered breathing.
Kevin's prior operating experience includes executive positions with Sephora (part of the Paris-based LVMH Group), Procter & Gamble, PepsiCo, and as CEO of venture-backed e-retailer Tavolo, Inc. He also spent several years in management consulting as Managing Partner with Hawk Hill Advisors leading engagements focused on accelerating growth through new business innovation, and commercializing disruptive new products and services with clients including Procter & Gamble, Motorola, Bare Escentuals and AT&T Wireless, among others.
Kevin earned a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. He began his career as an Army infantry and special operations (Ranger) officer and served tours of duty during peacetime and combat assignments. He has been an active member of the Young Presidents’ Organization since 1999.
Tobin C. Island, Ph.D.
Co-Founder, Chief Operating OfficerAs one of three scientific co-founders of TRIA Beauty, Dr. Island has led research & development, clinical & regulatory affairs, and all supply chain functions since the company’s formation.
As Senior Director of Operations at Lumenis, Ltd., Dr. Island was a co-inventor of LightSheer™, the first commercially successful, professional laser for hair removal, which set the industry standard for reliability and design and has generated more than $300 million in sales. He began his career at Star Medical, where he led the research and development of a novel laser-based imaging system for the diagnosis of skin burns.
Dr. Island earned his Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. He has published multiple scientific papers, holds six U.S. patents and 18 patent applications, and is a member of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.
John J. Rangel
Chief Financial OfficerAs CFO, John oversees financial and strategic planning, accounting, audit and investor relations, and human resources for TRIA Beauty. Previously, John served as CFO for Specialized Bicycle Components, Inc., where he was responsible for all financial aspects of the company and for the development and execution of successful strategic growth plans, including the company's expansion into Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region.
Prior to his tenure at Specialized Bicycle Components, John spent 23 years in a variety of finance and operations roles including CFO and President of European Operations with publicly-traded K2, Inc. (NYSE: KTO), a leading global sporting goods company. During his tenure at K2, sales grew from $128 million to over $1.5 billion, and the company completed 60 mergers and acquisitions. Earlier in his career, John was a certified public accountant with Ernst & Young.
John earned an M.B.A. from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Loyola Marymount University.
Jonathan T. Pearson
Co-Founder, Asia-Pacific Region ManagerJon is a co-founder of TRIA Beauty and oversees the Asia-Pacific region, currently comprised of direct operations in Japan and Korea. Japan was TRIA Beauty's first global market with sales commencing in 2005, and the Korea operation opened in May, 2010. Previously, Jon was Executive Vice President of Asia Pacific Operations at Lumenis, Ltd. With direct operations in both Japan and China, the division grew to $100 million in annual revenue and employed a team of 180 people. For two years running, the region became Lumenis' most profitable sales territory.
Prior to joining Lumenis, Jon served as Director, Asia Pacific for Coherent Medical Group, where he exceeded projected revenue for nine consecutive quarters, growing his region into the most profitable sales territory for the medical division.
Jon earned a Master's degree in International Management from the American Graduate School of International Management in Arizona and a B.A. from the University of Washington.
Lisa D. Parr, Pharm.D
Vice President, Clinical, Regulatory and Physician AffairsDr. Parr leads TRIA Beauty's Global Clinical Research and Regulatory teams in the development of premier research programs and regulatory strategies that result in 510(k) clearances. Lisa also leads the global Quality program, which ensures that all global regulatory compliance requirements are met. Additionally, she is the liaison for TRIA Beauty's thought-leader advocacy programs, medical advisory boards, and publication program.
An expert in regulatory and clinical affairs, Dr. Parr has developed a successful career as a senior executive serving in global leadership roles at some of the world’s most established and well-known pharmaceutical and consumer products companies, which span a breadth of therapeutic disciplines including dermatology, neurotoxin science, infectious diseases, and oncology.
Before joining TRIA Beauty, Dr. Parr served as Director of Botox® Clinical Development and the Neurotoxin Clinical Pharmacology Unit at Allergan, Inc. She served as Vice President of Clinical Affairs at Obagi Medical Products, Inc., and has also held several leadership roles in Regulatory Affairs at Bayer Corporation and Boehringer Ingelheim.
Dr. Parr earned a Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Illinois at Chicago and a B.S. in Pharmacy at the University of Pittsburgh.
Harvey Liu, Ph.D.
Vice President, EngineeringDr. Liu leads TRIA Beauty's research and development efforts, and oversees a team of scientists and engineers that span multiple disciplines including optical physics, and mechanical, electrical and software engineering. He was a key member of the engineering team that created the first TRIA Hair Removal Laser and Skin Perfecting Blue Light device for treating acne, and provides senior engineering leadership to the company’s innovation pipeline.
Prior to joining TRIA Beauty, Dr. Liu served as Senior Systems Test Engineer at Carl Zeiss Meditec, Inc. and was responsible for optical coherence tomography (OCT) product development. During his tenure at Star Medical, Coherent Medical Group, and Lumenis Ltd., Dr. Liu contributed to the development of several key cosmetic laser and UV treatment products including LightSheer™, BClear™ and ReLume™.
Dr. Liu earned a Ph.D. in semiconductor device research from Stanford University and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology.
Sridhar Nallani
Vice President, Information TechnologySridhar leads TRIA Beauty’s IT team in developing and executing global information technology strategies aligned to the company’s vision and objectives, including, world-class capabilities in eCommerce, Business Intelligence, Enterprise Architecture and Transformation, Application Development, and Infrastructure Design.
Sridhar possesses over 16 years of experience as a leader, recruiter, and motivator of top-performing software teams, and has developed strong partnerships for technology industry leaders such as Microsoft Corporation, Washington Mutual, Inc., and Boeing. Sridhar's operational experience includes leading on-time and on-budget design and delivery of complex products, and managing large-scale technology projects and offshore development teams for both start-up and mature companies.
Prior to joining TRIA Beauty, Sridhar served as Senior Director of IT at Microsoft Corporation, and as First Vice President of Technology at Washington Mutual, Inc., where he earned an ACE Award in 2007, the highest recognition of excellence given to the top 1% of senior management.
Sridhar earned an M.S. in Computer Science from Louisiana State University.
Danika Harrison
Senior Vice President, Global MarketingDanika leads global marketing for TRIA Beauty, including customer insights, brand and product strategy, creative development, and channel and marketing mix optimization. She ensures consistent implementation of global strategies through regional general managers in North America, Europe and Asia. Danika brings 15+ years of direct marketing expertise and a passion for consumer insights to the TRIA Beauty team.
Prior to joining TRIA Beauty, she led the relationship marketing team and managed several top consumer packaged goods clients as a Partner at Rosetta, the largest independent digital agency in North America until its recent acquisition by Publicis for $575 million. During her tenure with Rosetta, she led client engagements with Dannon, Johnson's Baby, and Rogers to develop innovative marketing programs throughout the United States and Canada. She possesses cross-industry marketing experience, having built Pfizer's relationship marketing capability and having spent several years in financial services marketing at Bank of America and Merrill Lynch.
Danika earned an M.B.A. from Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and graduated cum laude from Georgetown University with a B.S. in Business Administration.
Richard Glover
Vice President and General Manager, EuropeRichard directs all European commercial and marketing activities for TRIA Beauty and has more than 20 years of experience in consumer healthcare and pharmaceutical marketing. Prior to joining TRIA Beauty, Richard led the strategic development and launch of consumer campaigns for Allergan’s European Operations. He also served as Asian Regional Marketing Manager and Global Marketing Liaison Manager for Analgesics and Cough Cold categories at Boots Healthcare International, Ltd. Additionally, Richard served as CNS Group Product Manager at Sanofi-Synthelabo UK, Ltd.
During his career, Richard has launched over 14 brands across prescription, over-the-counter, and device categories spanning multiple markets in Europe and Asia, including the re-launch of Clearasil across Asia after the brand was acquired from Proctor and Gamble. He has developed award-winning advertising campaigns which have been honored by Interactive Media Awards (IMA), Webby Awards, OMMA, Communiqué, Think Box UK Awards (TV) & IPC Advertising Awards (Print). Most notably, he recently developed an integrated European Union direct-to-consumer strategy and campaign for Juvéderm ULTRA which proved positive ROI as a direct result of the consumer marketing.
Richard earned a B.S. in Physiology and a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in South Africa.
Husam Kal
Vice President, Global Supply ChainHusam is a key revenue, profit, and scalability driver. He is responsible for leading the Global Supply Chain, Product Supply, and Reverse Logistics team in the end-to-end process for supplying and delivering TRIA Beauty's proprietary products globally with on-plan costs, quality, service, and inventory strategies.
Before joining TRIA Beauty, Husam served as Director of Global Supply Chain Operations at Trimble Navigation, Ltd., a global leader of global positioning systems. While at Trimble, Husam designed and implemented new product introduction, life cycle management, and strategic supply chain initiatives that resulted in 8% gross margin improvement and 30% shorter time to volume production value for the company and its customers. Husam has also worked for technology leaders such as Proxim Wireless Corporation, Lucent Technologies, Inc., and Hypercom Corporation in various executive level positions where he streamlined operations and implemented customer-focused Supply Chain solutions.
Husam earned an M.B.A. from the University of Phoenix and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University.
